Fifty-nine per cent of these faculty members hold doctoral degrees. The University of Montana is fully accredited by the Northwest Association of Secondary and Higher Schools. The seven professional schools, including business administration, education, fine arts, for estry, journalism, law and pharmacy, are all accred ited by appropriate national organizations. More than 40 buildings are contained within the limits of the 116-acre main campus on the eastern edge of Missoula. The University owns an additional 624 acres on Mt. Sentinel. A short distance south of the main campus is a 154-acre area holding 394 married students housing units and a nine-hole golf course. The University also owns 295 acres at Fort Mis soula, plus 20,850 acres in the Lubrecht Experi mental Forest, 35 miles northeast of Missoula and 167 acres on Flathead Lake, including a Biological Station at Yellow Bay, 90 miles north of Missoula. Robert T. Pantzer was appointed President of the University of Montana on December 16, 1966 by the State Board of Regents, after he served as acting president since Au gust 15, 1966. A familiar figure on the Missoula campus, Pantzer has been associated with the University since 1957, serving as a professor of business administration and as financial vice- president. He received his B.A. in business ad ministration from UM in 1940 before serving 42 months overseas during World War II. He was discharged from the Army with the rank of major and a bronze star for meritorious service in the East Indies. Following the war, Pantzer returned to graduate from the University of Montana law school in 1947 before serving as county attorney at Chester, Mon tana from 1947-50 and practicing law in Livingston, Montana until 1957. Pantzer and his wife, the former Ann Prender- gast, have three children. — 3 — ATHLETIC DIRECTOR Jack Swarthout is Montana’s new athletic direc tor, and since assuming these duties as well as those of head football coach on February 1, 1967, he has taken a large step toward changing the athletic atmosphere at the University of Montana. Swarthout, a na tive of Prosser, Washington, is well known in Montana sports circles. He came to the Univer sity of Montana and played football from 1940-42, seeing ac tion at quarterback, halfback and end. His brother Bill was here at the same time, and the two played Grizzly foot ball together for two of those three years. Bill Swarthout is now a high school administrator at Great Falls. Swarthout was born February 23, 1920. He let tered in football, basketball and baseball in high school, and graduated from the University of Mon tana in 1942 with a bachelor’s degree in political science. He then served four years in the armed services as a lieutenant in the parachute infantry. HEAD COACH Ron Nord is starting his sixth year as head bas ketball coach at the University of Montana. He came to Montana after being assistant coach at the University of Wisconsin, where he lettered for the Bad gers in both basket ball and football be fore graduating
