Fraps windows 10 Continue I noticed a person in the myst-Uru community point out that FRAPS doesn't work on their Windows 10 machine. I'm on the verge of upgrading my main machine to 10. So what's going on? First, visit the FRAPS website. FRAPS is advertised for Windows until version 7. The newest version of 3.5.99 was released in February 2013... two or more years ago. (By number 11/24/2018 there are still no updates.) Are they going to update it for Windows 10? I can't find any information to reliably answer that question. I've seen some people commenting that the latest pace of updates several times a year stopped in February 2013. Requests that use the contact form in FRAPS have largely gone unanswered. A June 2015 video shows FRAPS working in Win10 on older hardware. Some search shows people have problems with FRAPS on Win10. There is some discussion of this issue in the FRAPS Windows 10 Thread issues on Microsoft forums. Update 11/2018: No new FRAPS updates, 5 years. Now I find FRAPS dead. Exploring ways to get FRAPS working on Win10... I don't find good fixes or solutions. Tom's Hardware Review and other technology sites have no answers. In this topic, one person says they received an email back from FRAPS people saying an update to Windows 10 is in the process. (I take it as a rumor.) This one doesn't exist. This is from the post in August 2015. The date of the letter was not included. What it was at least four months ago, and given their previous pace of development, I'm not really sure that the upgrade is coming. Elsewhere, people have pointed out problems with FRAPS; inefficiency in memory, slower frame rate, and inability to play FRAPS video in Win10. For the latest problem just open FRAPS recorded videos in Windows Media Player, then they play. One of the successive problems in different applications for video capture and Window 10 is not being able to record the desktop. Thus, showing the opening of the program and finding files can be a challenge. Windows 10 Windows 10 Solutions has a screen grab built in. With Windows Vista, there was a feature called Snipping Tool that makes one screen capture image. I love it because it captures the whole screen, then allows me to harvest only a fraction if the screen I want. It also has a handy pencil for marking the image. But, he has no way of capturing the video. Update 11/2018: Snipping Tool in Windows 10 has been improved. The main improvement in my thinking is the addition of DELAY. I can set the delay and open the drop down menu and highlight the choice for Snip to capture. Convenient. When you start a game or app Windows 10 has a video capture, as shown in the video above. Tap Windows- Key and G to bring up the XBox Game Bar... or DVR Game Bar, I see people using Names. Once the Xbox app is up and running, you can click on the Windows Key and Alt s R to start and stop recording. Clicking on windows and Alt Alt key Capture one screen capture frame. The images are placed in standard Microsoft folders. Video and single captures of the frame are included in: C: Win_login_ID VideoCapture or in Explorer... Videos Capture You can also find videos and pictures in the Xbox app. Playing with this on my Win10 laptop (HD4000) I see a very slight drop in frame rates, from 0 to 2 FPS. My laptop does 14 to 21 FPS (in SL) most of the time. So this looks like the free alternative to FRAPS. One of the problems is to change the settings on the voice recorder, you need to log into the Xbox ... that Windows 10 will allow you to do. I think it sucks to log into some online service to change some part of my operating system. But, if you can live with all the defaults... You can find many articles about this new Windows 10 feature. There are still a few neat features covered in the articles not mentioned in the above video. Alternatives If you're doing tutorials where you need to show your desktop and Explorer, you'll need a third-party app. According to cNET, there are about 180 fully free video programs. () for Windows 8. cNET doesn't have a filter for Win10 as I write this. Most free programs are free to download or free to try. To use for nothing more than a trial, you will have to fork out some money. OBS: Open Broadcaster Software - I reviewed this in an earlier article: How to Stream Second Life on YouTube Gaming. It is now my choice. (6/6/2017 - Now my favorite. 11/2018 - Still my choice.) ELYANIK - (Vista / 7/8) Capture and editing. CamStudio (free alternative to Camtasia) HyperCam Debut Video by Movavi Screen Capture Studio - There is a retail (US$29) and a free 7-day trial. The free version is a useless version for everything you can do. But just playing with him, I liked it. If I decide that I need to replace FRAPS, this will probably be my replacement. Adobe: Captivate 2019 - Not free, US$ 30/month and not part of the standard Creative Cloud package. TechSmith: Camtasia - Also not free, US$299. cNET: List of software for Win 8, free. HyperCam is by far the busiest. Screencast-O-Matic is a close second. WARNING: I'm not a fan of cNET/Download.com as it takes great care to avoid also installing advertising.
