St James’ RC Primary Newsletter Friday 29th March 2019 Twitter: @stjamesrc Issue 25 Headteacher’s Message During Lent KS1 and Year 3 have been attending 9:30 Mass. This week we have been talking to KS2 about what bullying is. The children were able to explain that it is repeated behaviour which is intended to hurt someone either emotionally or physically. We talked about the difference between someone been mean occasionally or hurting us without meaning to as opposed to intentional repeated bullying behaviour. The children know that bullying can happen because of race, religion, gender or sexual orientation or any other aspect such as appearance or disability. Bullying can take many forms including physical assault, teasing, making threats, name calling and cyber bullying. This week KS2 have completed an Anti-Bullying Questionnaire. I will let you know the results of this when I have analysed the questionnaires fully. KS1 Student Council members and Head Gardeners took part in a Litter Pick with Mrs Deasy on Tuesday and were horrified at the amount of plastic they retrieved from the bushes around our field. They wore protective gloves and eye protectors. The rubbish that they picked up had obviously been there for many years because it was plastic and had not decomposed. The children want to remind everyone that we are trying to be as plastic free as possible. A representative from UCL met with KS1 staff on Tuesday to further discuss the interactive toy that the university is researching that will hopefully help children practise and improve their self- regulation skills. Thursday saw the second of Year 6’s sessions with The Crystal Palace Diving Team Talent Testers our mentors from The Bank of America Merrill visited the school this week to see if there were Lynch.
