FIRST YEAR HOUSING OPTIONS

TOUSSAINT HALL

Located on our newest residential campus, the Upper Quad, Toussaint Hall, named after Pierre Toussaint, houses over 160 freshmen students. Rooms are primarily two-bedroom/four-person pods with a half bath in each and a shared walk-in closet. The building is staffed with 6 student RSAs and 1 RHD. The first floor of the building has agame room and common area. There are also 2 atrium-style common rooms. Toussaint Hall has group & quiet study rooms on each floor, and it is home to the Honors Living- Learning Community.

RONCALLI HALL

Just across the street from campus, Roncalli Hall houses over 400 students in a suite-style building. Named after Angelo Roncalli – Pope John XXIII, the building is staffed with 16 RSAs and 1 RHD. The modified suite- style has double and triple rooms with half of each floor sharing common space, laundry, a study room, and 2 bathrooms per suite. Roncalli Hall is home to four Living- Learning Communities (LLC’s): the Jack Welch College of Business, SHU-Well, Community & Justice, and Gaming & Technology. From the cardio gym on the first floor to the common spaces, Roncalli Hall is a great environment for students to get to know each other and prepare for academic success.

SETON HALL

Located in the heart of campus, Seton Hall houses over 420 first-year students in a traditional corridor style building. Named after Elizabeth Ann Seton, Seton Hall is staffed with 12 RSAs and 1 RHD. There are double and triple rooms with a kitchen and laundry on every floor. There are also 6 gender- specific bathrooms on each floor. The 1st floor has a common room and outside is a sand volleyball court adjacent to the building.

MERTON HALL

Named after Thomas Merton, Merton Hall is located adjacent to Seton Hall. The traditional style freshmen residence hall houses over 330 students, 11 RSAs and 1 RHD. Similar to Seton, there are double and triple rooms with a shared kitchen and laundry on every floor. Additionally, there are 4 gender-specific bathrooms on each floor. The 1st floor common room, also known as The Great Room, is popular amongst students to study or hang out. Outside the building to the side is a half-sized basketball court.

BERGOGLIO HALL

Located in the heart of campus, Jorge Bergoglio Hall houses over 200 freshmen residential students in two- bedroom (four-person) pods with a shared bathroom. Named after Jorge Bergoglio – Pope Francis, the building is staffed with 6 RSAs and 1 RHD and is home to the Honors Living Learning Community. Each floor has shared common areas and laundry. There is a CrossFit gym as well as a Video-game room located on the first floor. Both are accessible to students as well as our Club Sports teams.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I select my room and roommate? After you are admitted to the University, you will receive an email (mid-May) that outlines all details for roommate selection. What type of room will I live in? Most students live in either a double or triple room. Can I choose my residence hall or room type? Students are able to indicate a preference for halls through the housing registration form. Consideration to be designated for a double room is generally determinted by deposit date. Early Decision students are guaranteed the option to live in a double, but may also select a triple if desired. Does Sacred Heart have “forced triples”? Sacred Heart does not have forced triples. All of our rooms are of commensurate size and space to accommodate the number of students assigned to the room. Can I live by myself? Living with a roommate is an important part of the college living experience. We urge all students to foster friendships with their roommates and floormates. Is housing guaranteed? Yes! Housing is guaranteed for all four years as an undergraduate student. Is there a residency requirement? Yes, there is. First-year and sophomore students are required to live in University housing. What if I have a specific medical condition? Please contact the Office of Residential Life to make us aware of your situation. We will do everything we can to assist you in your experience at SHU! What furniture is provided in the rooms? Each student is provided with a bed, dresser, wardrobe/closet, desk, and desk chair. One microfridge per room is provided as well.
