Diversity of Norwegian sea slugs (Nudibranchia): new species to Norwegian coastal waters and new data on distribution of rare species. Fauna norvegica 32: 45-52. A total of 5 nudibranch species are reported from the Norwegian coast for the first time (Doridoxa ingolfiana, Goniodoris castanea, Onchidoris sparsa, Eubranchus rupium and Proctonotus mucro- niferus). In addition 10 species that can be considered rare in Norwegian waters are presented with new information (Lophodoris danielsseni, Onchidoris depressa, Palio nothus, Tritonia griegi, Tritonia lineata, Hero formosa, Janolus cristatus, Cumanotus beaumonti, Berghia norvegica and Calma glau- coides), in some cases with considerable changes to their distribution. These new results present an update to our previous extensive investigation of the nudibranch fauna of the Norwegian coast from 2005, which now totals 87 species. An increase in several new species to the Norwegian fauna and new records of rare species, some with considerable updates, in relatively few years results mainly from sampling effort and contributions by specialists on samples from poorly sampled areas. doi: 10.5324/fn.v31i0.1576. FOREWORD Abundant fish and wildlife, unbroken coastal vistas, miles of scenic rivers, swamps and mountains open to exploration, and well-tended forests and fields…these resources enhance the quality of life that makes South Carolina a place people want to call home. We know our state’s natural resources are a primary reason that individuals and businesses choose to locate here. They are drawn to the high quality natural resources that South Carolinians love and appreciate. The quality of our state’s natural resources is no accident. It is the result of hard work and sound stewardship on the part of many citizens and agencies. The 20th century brought many changes to South Carolina; some of these changes had devastating results to the land. However, people rose to the challenge of restoring our resources. Over the past several decades, deer, wood duck and wild turkey populations have been restored, striped bass populations have recovered, the bald eagle has returned and more than half a million acres of wildlife habitat has been conserved. We in South Carolina are particularly proud of our accomplishments as we prepare to celebrate, in 2006, the 100th anniversary of game and fish law enforcement and management by the state of South Carolina. Since its inception, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) has undergone several reorganizations and name changes; however, more has changed in this state than the department’s name. According to the US Census Bureau, the South Carolina’s population has almost doubled since 1950 and the majority of our citizens now live in urban areas. -

In the present study Opisthobranchia species collected along the Mediterranean and Aegean coasts of Turkey in 2004 and 2005 were evaluated. Samples were taken from Çanakkale Strait and the northern coast of Gelibolu Peninsula in the northern Aegean Sea, and from Bodrum, Bay of Fethiye, Kaş, and Adrasan along Turkey’s Mediterranean coast. Sampling was carried out by means of scuba diving. In some locations a bottom dredge sampler was used. In all, 321 individuals were collected, representing 30 species from 7 orders. Among the sampled species, 8 are new taxonomical records for Turkish coasts: Trapania lineata, T. maculata, Diaphorodoris papillata, D. luteocincta, Limacia clavigera, Chromodoris elegantula, Hypselodoris orsinii, and Phyllidia flava. Some of these species, however, were previously recorded in photographs from Turkey taken by amateur divers and underwater photographers. [Read 18th June, 1908.1 THE Nudibranchs here described were collected mostly by Mr. C. Crossland, but partly also by Mr. J. G. Logan at Suez and in the neighbourhood of Suakim. The collection, though in many respects typical of the hdo-Pacific area, presents several points of interest. The large flat forms (Discodoris, Platydoris, etc.), which are generally so abundant on these shores, are poorly represented, probably because their favourite habitat (the underside of large Jtones on reefs) did not occur in the collecting-grounds. The presence of Goniodoris castanea and Lomanotus vermifonnis (which may be the youug of the Mediterranean species L. genei) is very remarkable, and the question arises whether they are part of the original fauna of the Red Sea or importa- tions through the Suez Canal. Nudibranchs more than most molluscs have a fondness for adhering to the bottoms of ships and probably make consider- able journeys in this way. On the other hand, Tliecacera maculata, Eliot, which is recorded from Karachi (Eliot, in Journ. of Conchol. 1905, p. 242), is hardly distinguishable from 2%.pennigera, which is only known from the British Coast, and the distribution of Lomanotics and Goniodoris may perhaps prove to be similar. The reappearance of Oliola paciJca, Tliorunna furtira, and Plocamopksriis ocellatus is also interesting. -

BOUCHER2 ABSTRACT: The rich opisthobranch fauna of the Marshall Islands has re mained largely unstudied because of the geographic remoteness of these Pacific islands. We report on a long-term collection ofOpisthobranchia assembled from the atolls of Bikini, Enewetak, Kwajalein, Rongelap, and Ujelang . Fifty-seven new records for the Marshall Islands are recorded, raising to 103 the number of species reported from these islands. Aspects ofthe morphology, ecology, devel opment, and systematics of 76 of these species are discussed. THE OPISTHOBRANCH FAUNA OF THE Marshall viously named species are discussed, 57 of Islands, a group of 29 atolls and five single which are new records for the Marshall islands situated 3500 to 4400 km west south Islands (Table 1). west of Honolulu, Hawaii, is rich and varied but has not been reported on in any detail. The spatial distribution of the molluscan fauna from infralittoral hard substrate assemblages in the North Aegean Sea was studied during summer 1997 and 1998. Material was collected from six stations located in Chalkidiki peninsula, plus one in Kavala Gulf. Samples were collected by means of SCUBA diving (5 replicates with a quadrate sampler covering the surface of 400cm2). Examination of the 10917 living molluscs collected revealed 111 species, belonging to three different classes (five Polyplacophora, 85 Gastropoda and 21 Bivalvia). Skeneopsis planorbis, Trapania maculata and Limapontia capitata are reported for the first time as elements of the molluscan fauna in the Eastern Mediterranean or the Aegean Sea, and Callistochiton pachylasmae, Raphitoma leu froyi, Polycera quadrilineata, Phyllaplysia lafonti and Petalifera petalifera as elements in the North Aegean Sea. Multivariate analyses (Cluster and MDS), discriminate the sampling stations into four main groups, indicating, that apart from the rough dispersion of the molluscs, a more homogenous pattem is detectable at the middle part of the lower infralittoral zone. President Peter has very kindly invited me to use his editorial slot to write a piece encouraging more members to play an active part in the Society. A few stalwarts already give very generously of their time and energy, and we are enormously grateful to them; but it would be good to spread the load and get more done. Some of you, I know, don’t have enough time - at least at the moment - and others can’t for other reasons; but if you do have time and energy, please don’t be put off by any reluctance to get involved, or any feeling that you don’t know enough. There are many ways in which you can take part – coming to meetings, and especially field meetings; sending in records; helping with the records databases and the website; writing for our publications; joining Council; and taking on one of the officers’ jobs. None of us know enough when we start; but there’s a lot of experience and knowledge in the Society, and fellow members are enormously helpful in sharing what they know. Apart from learning a lot, you will also make new friends, and have a lot of fun. The Society plays an important part in contributing to our knowledge of molluscs and to mollusc conservation, especially through the database on the National Biodiversity Network Gateway (www.nbn.org.uk); and is important also in building positive links between professional and amateur conchologists.
