He was born Aug. 25, 1956 in Logan, W.Va. to Amos Jr. and Nina Jo (Moore) Cantrell. Ronald attended North Miami High School and was a surveyor with John Stephens in Wabash. In high school he played football and was a member of the F.F.A. He was a member of the A.B.A.T.E. Club of Kokomo, the National Rifle Association and was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He was a Notre Dame football fan and enjoyed singing karaoke. He is survived by son, Ronnie Lancaster, Macy; a daughter, Lacey Phillips and husband William, Peru; his father and step mother, Amos Cantrell Jr. and wife Polly, Wabash; two grandchildren, Dalin Phillips and Analey Phillips, both of Peru; three brothers, Donald Lee Cantrell and wife Kristy, Darrell Ray Cantrell and wife Ty-Ann, and John David Cantrell, all of Wabash; two sisters, Ilah Ann Paige and husband Norman, Pensacola, Fla., and Lisa Hayslip, Wabash; several nieces and nephews, and Max, his dog. He was preceded in death by his mother in 1979. Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Remembrance Mausoleum at Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Wabash, on Tuesday at 10 a.m., with Pastor Tim Prater officiating.     Tom Rhodes www.tomrhodes.net Tom Rhodes has been a stand‐up comedian since he was 17 years old. Early years At the age of 12 Tom's father, a decorated Vietnam war hero with a great sense of humor and a love of stand‐up comedy, took Tom to see his uncle Bob perform at a comedy show. The entrance to the room was right next to the stage and as a joke the comedian on stage pulled Tom up with him because he wearing a Washington Redskins jacket. He interviewed Tom as if he was the coach of the Washington Redskins. It was that moment on stage in Washington DC, seeing the happy people with their heads thrown back in laughter, that Tom Rhodes decided to be a stand‐up comedian. Later that same year Toms family moved to Oviedo Florida just outside of Orlando and Tom became obsessed with everything to do and related to comedy. He dreamed to become either a major baseball player or a professional stand‐up comedian. Sometime during high school as the swift curve balls increased their precision Tom knew he wasn’t born to be a baseball player and continued to fill notebooks with joke ideas and focus on following his comedy dreams. Tom’s father David had many comedy classic albums in the house and with his father guidance he studied the masters Richard Pryor, Bob Newhart, Bill Cosby and Rodney Dangerfield. While attending Oviedo High School, everyone knew Tom wanted to be a comedian and he was invited to host talent shows, pep rallies, and the morning and afternoon announcements.

I had said my last good-byes the night before at Ducky Dingler’s rooming house, but my eyes, too, were misty. The conductor picked up his light and with sadness in his voice said, “Boys, it’s time to go.” He waved his light, a bell on the front of the car clanged as the last hasty kisses were exchanged. Silent men filed into the car and sat down. Wheels squealed and the little knot of well-wishers vanished into the fog. There were no dry eyes as we moved down Van Nuys Boulevard. This was the last chance for tears, for in a few hours we would all be soldiers. And soldiers did not cry, did they? Little did we know. It was January 2, 1943. Our date of return was unknown. Thirty-nine months later I came back to my old boarding house on Van Nuys Boulevard. Ducky Dingler had a bed for me. The morn- ing after I returned, the San Fernando Valley was again engulfed in fog.

A dozen about-to-be soldiers stood in the predawn fog by the Red Car interurban in Van Nuys, California. Most were exchanging good-byes with parents, friends, or family. Red eyes were everywhere. I had said my last good-byes the night before at Ducky Dingler’s rooming house, but my eyes, too, were misty. The conductor picked up his light and with sadness in his voice said, “Boys, it’s time to go.” He waved his light, a bell on the front of the car clanged as the last hasty kisses were exchanged. Silent men filed into the car and sat down. Wheels squealed and the little knot of well-wishers vanished into the fog. There were no dry eyes as we moved down Van Nuys Boulevard. This was the last chance for tears, for in a few hours we would all be soldiers. And soldiers did not cry, did they? Little did we know. It was January 2, 1943. Our date of return was unknown. Thirty-nine months later I came back to my old boarding house on Van Nuys Boulevard. Ducky Dingler had a bed for me. The morn- ing after I returned, the San Fernando Valley was again engulfed in fog. After breakfast I went out to Ducky’s front porch and lay down in her porch swing and daydreamed about buying civilian clothes.
