The Hauntings Soldier The Hauntings Soldier a ghost like sculpture made from scrap to represent soldiers who came home from the Great War frayed and in pieces to their families was brought to at the request of Ms. Sabina Purcell to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the war ending. Wreaths were laid at the war memorial at Pery Square in Limerick city centre by Limerick City and County Council and by a number of veteran organisations. At the beginning of the Mass ONE CEO welcomed all present, especially the families of those who died and Joe Fitzpatrick one of the survivors. Unfortunately, for the first time in many years Tommy Kenny was unable to attend. The Mass was celebrated by Fr. Seán McCartin, CF to the 27 Inf Bn. Fr. Dave Tyndall who is the chaplain for Cathal Brugha Bks was on UN leave but he wrote a very apt and poignant homily for the day, which was presented by Fr. Following the Mass a remembrance ceremony took place. On this occasion, due to inclement weather, the ceremony took place inside the church and this seemed to add to the ceremony. Wreaths were laid by the dignitaries, Tom James, National President laid a wreath on behalf of ONE. The Defence Forces School of Music supplied a piper, bugler and drummer which enhanced the occasion with their music.
