BROWN’S HOTEL LONDON SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW, SOMETHING ELSE Brown’s is tradition mixed with modern fl air. Just like London. It is a place where you can nibble on traditional cucumber sandwiches and taste the best of modern British cooking. It is a place right at the heart of London, where personal service is delivered with gracious ease. 1 BROWN’S IS LONDON We fi rst opened our doors on Albemarle Street in 1837. Since then, Rudyard Kipling, Agatha Christie and Winston Churchill have come to eat, sleep and write here. Teddy Roosevelt came by to prepare for his wedding day, and it was from our reception that Alexander Graham Bell made Britain’s fi rst telephone call. We keep the names of today’s illustrious guests under lock and key. These days our guests arrive in taxi cabs rather than hansom cabs, but one thing has not changed: the understated hospitality that makes Brown’s famous. 2 3 Fortnum & Mason. Bond Street boutiques. Dover Street Market. The Royal Academy of Arts and the contemporary galleries on nearby Cork Street. With Mayfair on your doorstep, there is plenty to do. Whether you are drawn to the elegant atmosphere of Burlington Arcade, the crisp tailoring of Savile Row or Soho’s round-the-clock bonhomie, Brown’s is perfectly situated to get right into the heart of it. 4 5 PART OF LONDON LIFE Like any good host, we are keen to show you around. We have been here long enough to learn some of London’s best-kept secrets. The roads less travelled. The stones that usually go unturned. Fancy a speedboat trip down the Thames? A food-tasting ramble around Borough Market? A tour of the city’s timeless Victorian pubs? Individual access to some of Mayfair’s fi nest art? Tickets to London’s best theatres? We want to help you experience London as Londoners do. With so much to see, making the most of your time in London means separating the ordinary from the extraordinary. That is where we come in. 7 A TASTE – AND A SIP – OF LONDON We have a traditional tea room, a not-so-traditional restaurant, and a bar that evokes London in the Sixties and Seventies. For more intimate occasions, a range of private meeting and dining rooms are available. THE ENGLISH TEA ROOM Many claim to serve London’s defi nitive afternoon tea. We defy you to fi nd a scone as light or a cup of tea as fragrant as ours. HIX MAYFAIR The HIX menu is all about British fl avours handled deftly and with sophistication. Potted Morecambe Bay Shrimps. Mixed beets with Cashel Blue. Norfolk treacle tart with clotted cream. The menu is designed to be a refl ection of every passing season. Each plate is as much a work of art as the Tracey Emin and Rankin works that hang on the walls. THE DONOVAN BAR The Donovan Bar serves expertly mixed cocktails in intriguingly clandestine surroundings. Its namesake would expect nothing less. 10 MARK HIX 11 “Queen Victoria and Winston Churchill were among those who loved to take tea at Brown’s.” AWARD-WINNING AFTERNOON TEA FOR THOSE SEEKING A QUINTESSENTIALLY ENGLISH EXPERIENCE. 12 THE DONOVAN BAR ROOMS AND SUITES Quite simply, a hotel room like no other. Victorian antiques meet modern classics. Italian marble meets English oak. Our 88 bedrooms and 29 suites were designed by Olga Polizzi. Her intriguing blend of styles and vintages gives each room a distinctive charm, as do her countless thoughtful touches. A curated selection of novels by your bedside. The distinct pleasure of a well-placed reading light. “I should be a king in the forest, as I used to be, sleeping half the day and bathing when I liked.” RUDYARD KIPLING WROTE THE JUNGLE BOOK WHILST STAYING AT BROWN’S. 14 15 16 THE KIPLING SUITE SPA AND GYM If the weather does not invite a stroll in Green Park, our round- the-clock gym is there to clear the mind.
