www.camillerigroup.com The Camilleri family has for generations been associated with the confectionery trade.With over 165 years of continuous trading activity, the family-owned group of companies has diversified in the past three decades into the outside catering, wearing apparel and home furnishings sectors. Camilleri Group has aggressive expansion plans both in its core business and the new sector, not just in Malta but also abroad. Market The Maltese market has always been price sensitive, yet for the Camilleris, it has been positive, as it has always adopted the policy of 'small profit, quick return', even though its products and brands are all crowd-pullers. C. Camilleri & Sons is the oldest in the Group and dates back to 1843. C. Camilleri & Sons (Catering) is one of the leading caterers on the island. Although the company started its operation in 1983, a purpose-built factory to EU specifications, was opened in 2003. Camilleri Establishments owns the popular BHS, including Tammy and lately Burton's franchise, while Camilleri Trading owns the Mothercare franchise, both of which are well patronised. Crime Threats Malta is a generally safe country that receives numerous foreign tourists on a yearly basis. However, crimes of opportunity and violent crime do occur. Most street crimes are non-violent and non-confrontational and range from scams to petty theft. Theft of cell phones, computers, money, jewelry, and iPods is common. Visitors should keep these items out of sight and only use them in safe locations. Most street criminals are unarmed and are not prone to gratuitous violence. Victims of street crime are often inattentive targets of opportunity. Women should keep purses zipped and in front of them. Wear the shoulder straps of bags across your chest. Keep your money, credit cards, wallet, and other valuables in your front pockets. COLLINGWOOD A REVISION OF THE MYRMECOFAUNA OF THE MALTESE ISLANDS (HYMENOPTERA, FORMICIDAE) INTRODUCTION In 1924, Emery published a short paper in which he listed seven species of ants identified by him from a small collection made by Sil- vestri on Malta (EMERY, 1924). No further work was carried out until 1968 when Baroni Urbani published a comprehensive work on the ant fauna of the Maltese group in which he added another 23 species, bring- ing the total number to 30 (BARONI URBANI, 1968a). In a further paper, BARONI URBANI (1968b) discussed the biogeography of the Maltese myrmecofauna. Collections made over the period 1975-1979 by one of us (SPS) have included 29 out of the 30 species previously recorded, and have added a further 14 to the Maltese list, bringing the total to 44 species. The present work discusses these new findings and extends the distri- bution records of BARONI URBANI (1968a). Many of the Maltese po- pulations show interesting and sometimes puzzling morphological va- riations when compared to populations of the same species from the European mainland, and these are also discussed. Notes on taxonomy and ecology are included where relevant.     THE HIERARCHY OF MALTESE TOWNS Andre Zammit HE settlement pattern in any country evolves in response to economic, T social, cultural, environmental, and other factors and has to be guided so as to help attain the planning goals and objectives in the best possible way. Among the fundamental aspects of the settlement pattern are location and hierarchial distribution, which is what this article is about. Theoretical Basis In the good old days of straightforward agricultural economies these aspects were unconsciously looked after by natural and largely intuitive measures and decisions. A simple system of hamlets, villages, towns, and cities evolved naturally, reflecting the fertility of the earth and the basic exigencies of transport, defence, and commerce. With the infinitely more complex present-day economies, technological progress, socio-cultural aspirations, increased affluence, and lesiure, to mention only a few of the factors involved, the planning problems have escalated and the difficulties have often been compounded by long periods of laissez faire and wrong decisions. The hierarchy should reflect a pyramidal system of urban and social services and facilities with the highest at the vertex. Among the pioneers in the study of the hierarchy of settlements were Christaller, Losch, Auerbach, and Lotka and more recently Doxiadis, Isbary, Parr, and Cori. Christaller's Central Places (Zentraie Orte) Theory and Doxiadis's Ekistic Scale are well-known milestones but recently the Rank Size Rule (RSR) has been widely used in the analysis of settlement patterns. In applying theories evolved in the broader contexts of large countries to a small island like Malta one must bear in mind that the relevance becomes relative.

It includes thirteen localities – Ħ’Attard, Ħal Balzan Birkirkara, il-Gżira, l-Iklin, Ħal Lija, l-Imsida, Tal- Pietà, San Ġwann, Tas-Sliema, San Ġiljan, Santa Venera, and Ta’ Xbiex. The Region has an area of about 25km2 and a populations of about 130,574 (2017) which constitutes 28.36 percent of the population of the country. This population occupies about 8 percent of the whole area of the Maltese Islands which means that the density is of around 6,635 persons per km2. The coat-of-arms of the Central Region was granted in 2014 (L.N. 364 of 2014). The shield has a blue field signifying the Mediterranean Sea in which there are thirteen bezants or golden disks representing the thirteen municipalities forming the Region.
