National Tour of HAMILTON COMING TO OVERTURE CENTER DURING 2019/20 SEASON Madison, Wis. - The national tour of the Broadway musical HAMILTON will play in Madison, Wis., as part of the 2019/20 Broadway at Overture season, it was announced today by producer Jeffrey Seller and Overture Center for the Arts. The best way to guarantee tickets to HAMILTON is to purchase a seven-show Broadway at Overture season subscription for 2018/19. Subscribers who renew their subscription for the 2019/20 season will be able to guarantee their seats for the premiere Madison engagement of HAMILTON before tickets become available to the general public. More information about the 2018/19 season will be available on Mon., Apr. 9, 2018. Information regarding engagement dates and how to purchase groups and single tickets will be announced at a later time.     Gordon 1 Jessica Gordon 29 March 2010 Honors Thesis Everything was Beautiful at the Ballet: The Evolution of Musical Theatre Dance During the mid-1860s, a ballet troupe from Paris was brought to the Academy of Music in lower Manhattan. Before the company’s first performance, however, the theatre in which they were to dance was destroyed in a fire. Nearby, producer William Wheatley was preparing to begin performances of The Black Crook, a melodrama with music by Charles M. Barras. Seeing an opportunity, Wheatley conceived the idea to combine his play and the displaced dance company, mixing drama and spectacle on one stage. On September 12, 1866, The Black Crook opened at Niblo’s Gardens and was an immediate sensation. Wheatley had unknowingly created a new American art form that would become a tradition for years to come. Since the first performance of The Black Crook, dance has played an important role in musical theatre. From the dream ballet in Oklahoma to the “Dance at the Gym” in West Side Story to modern shows such as Movin’ Out, dance has helped tell stories and engage audiences throughout musical theatre history. Dance has not always been as integrated in musicals as it tends to be today. I plan to examine the moments in history during which the role of dance on the Broadway stage changed and how those changes affected the manner in which dance is used on stage today. Additionally, I will discuss the important choreographers who have helped develop the musical theatre dance styles and traditions. As previously mentioned, theatrical dance in America began with the integration of European classical ballet and American melodrama.

    We Finally See Rockwell, Williams in FX's First 'Fosse/Verdon' Trailer 02.25.2019 FX's upcoming eight-episode limited series, Fosse/Verdon, unpacks the turbulent five-decade relationship of legendary Hollywood director and choreographer, Bob Fosse (Sam Rockwell), and his wife, muse and star in her own right, Gwen Verdon (Michelle Williams). Their relationship starts as a director-star cliche and then evolves into something much more complicated as Fosse fuels his manic creativity with drugs, alcohol and sex. Verdon, meanwhile, reaches the height of her career as a Broadway triple threat and multiple Tony winner but watches Fosse stay in the spotlight as she fades into age and obscurity. Still, she remains his unrecognized collaborator even as their marriage unravels. Eventually, Fosse forges a connection with Ann Reinking (Margaret Qualley), an up-and-coming Broadway dancer who has all the talent and tenacity of a young Verdon.     Herding Cats: Infosec Follies October 2012 Herding Cats: Infosec Follies 2 Here’s a hot sports opinion for you: I think our industry is terrible at information risk analysis and management. There is a significant gap between what information security professionals consider high risk and what business professionals consider high risk. I’ve been in those meetings where information security has had their legs cut out from under them, but I’ve also been in meetings where open checkbooks for security were passed around like month-old Halloween candy1. There are a number of reasons for this; let’s explore a few here. The most glaring omission is our repeated usage of inaccurate (or inconsistent) historical data. If we are terrible at forecasting when and where events will occur and their impact to our business, we look no better than the sales person who forecasts a 75% miss in the last week of the quarter. So we take an ultra conservative approach to try and cover our bases. There are a bunch of you out there who have done this successfully for a number of years, and so far you haven’t been bit. There used to be an old saying (which probably still exists in some circles, but I’m going to pretend it doesn’t anymore) in the PCI DSS compliance world that went like this: “You are compliant until you are compromised.” Meaning, it didn’t matter what you reported to your processor as long as you were breach free. Corfield (2020) Public monuments to cats – as opposed to literary, artistic and musical celebrations1 – are rare to find, especially dating from the eighteenth century. So this majestic example deserves full appreciation. The lordly cat sits atop a giant Grecian vase, all forming the substantial Cat Monument.2 It was designed in 1749 and built c.1770 in the new weatherproof composite known as Coade Stone.3 Erected at Shugborough Park in Staffordshire, the Monument was commissioned by Thomas Anson (c.1695-1773). He was the felinophile, who owned the estate and had the wealth as well as the space to indulge his taste for architectural patronage in full. Curiously enough, the identity of this publicly honoured cat remains uncertain. One strong possibility is that it commemorates Thomas Anton’s own favoured pet, named Khouli-Khan. This cat was the last of a line of Persian cats owned by the family. Hence, behind the luxuriant mustachios on the Monument’s lordly feline, the statue may show the round face and short muzzle that is characteristic of that particular breed. 1 Another possibility, however, is that the honoured cat was the adventurous moggy who circumnavigated the globe in the years 1740-44 with Admiral George Anson (1697-1762). He was the much admired younger brother of Thomas Anson. And the childless George Anson had bequeathed his great fortune, based upon Spanish treasure, to his older sibling. As a result, some of the monuments and memorabilia at Shugborough Park were devised as fraternal tributes to the circumnavigator.

Shakespeare’s plays have been a cornerstone of our work at CSC, and his writing continues to reflect and refract our triumphs and trials as individuals and collectively as a society. We inevitability turn to Shakespeare to express our despair, bewilderment, and delight. So, what better place to start our anniversary year than with the contemplative search for self and belonging in As You Like It. At the heart of this beautiful play is a speech that so perfectly encapsulates our mortality. All the world’s a stage, and we go through so many changes as we make our exits and our entrances. You will have noticed many changes for CSC. We have a new look, new membership opportunities, and are programming in a new way with more productions and a season that splits into what we have called “acts.” Each act focuses either on a playwright or on an era of work. It seemed appropriate to inaugurate this with a mini-season of Shakespeare, which continues with Fiasco Theater's TWELFTH NIGHT. Then there is Act II: Americans dedicated to work by American playwrights Terrence McNally (FIRE AND AIR) and Tennessee Williams (SUMMER AND SMOKE); very little of our repertoire has focused on classics written by Americans. This act also premieres a new play by Terrence McNally, as I feel that the word classic can also encapsulate the “bigger idea” and need not always be the work of a writer from the past.

Since his arrival at Lincoln Center in 2011, he has served as executive producer of Live From Lincoln Center episodes ranging from classical music to dance to theatre. Prior to his work at Lincoln Center, Wilk served as Chief Creative Officer at Sony Music Entertainment, where he oversaw all visual content for Sony’s label groups and spearheaded Sony’s digital expansion. He also served as Founding Programmer and Executive Vice President of Programming and Production for the National Geographic Channel, where he launched the channel and developed its initial programming and scheduled and commissioned new programs, including specials with PBS and NBC. Wilk has won five Emmy Awards and received 15 nominations. Over the course of his career, he has produced or directed more than 1,000 television shows, ranging from children’s programming to news to commercial entertainment, in addition to continuing his work as a conductor of live music concerts.
