Instructor I University of South Florida Tampa, FL 8/19-present • Courses: o Florida Focus o Broadcast News o Advanced Reporting o News Editing • As the chair of USF’s Digital Network Committee, I led the charge to teach mass communications and advertising classes at the WUSF studios. Following years of proposals, cross-campus collaborations, trial runs and presentations, the Provost approved my plan to host more than six broadcast and production courses at the studios. I led the move to install a TV control room and studio. I oversaw the partnership between Innovative Education, WUSF and the College of Arts and Sciences where students get hands-on experience with advanced TV and production equipment. • Created a collaboration with Hashtag Our Stories, a solutions-based social media video publisher that gets six million views a day. Crafted nine projects for three different journalism and digital media courses to facilitate opportunities for students to publish constructive stories to spread compassion and challenge stereotypes. Teach students how to edit videos using Snapchat’s Story Studio. Involve students in editorial meetings with journalists across the world using Skype and Slack. • Working with WUSF radio to produce a show about Sarasota’s first African-American community with my Advanced Reporting class for air on Tampa’s NPR sister station, 89.7 FM. • Rebuilding and managing a WordPress website for students to publish multimedia news stories.

• Teaming up with online publisher 83 Degrees Media to produce multimedia solutions-journalism stories about Tampa’s Uptown community with Advanced Reporting students. • Instruct students on how to produce Florida Focus news briefs that air daily on Tampa’s PSB affiliate, WEDQ. Coach students to write scripts, shoot video, edit video on Premiere Pro and edit graphics on Adobe Photoshop.

Visiting Instructor University of South Florida Tampa, FL 8/17-5/19 • Courses: o Broadcast News o Advanced Reporting o News Editing o TV News o Online Beginning Reporting • Taught students how to create professional video stories that air on PBS affiliate WEDU-TV in America’s 11th largest media market. • Won first place TBABJ Griot Drum Radio Feature Award in 2018 for two-part Florida Matters program that my Advanced Reporting class helped create with NPR affiliate WUSF-FM and wusf.org called “Telling Tampa Bay Stories Progress Village.” Aired six times in 2017. • Helped produce a two-part Florida Matters radio program about Plant City with Advanced Reporting class that aired 12 times on WUSF-FM in 2018. • Transformed Advanced Reporting class into an innovative multimedia mobile journalism course where students created video and AP-style stories for WordPress. Instructed and evaluated student SEO Tweets, Facebook and Instagram posts. • Transformed News Editing class thanks to a collaboration with Florida Focus. Taught students to produce SEO web and social media stories to increase engagement and boost analytics. During fall 2018, my students increased YouTube views on the Florida Focus channel. They received 1,500 more views than spring 2018 and 2,300 more than fall 2017. • Redesigned the Digital Bullpen website to improve visibility and credibility for student stories. • Oversaw the YouTube channel for the Zimmerman School of Advertising and Mass Communications. Customized the channel with new playlists, SEO headlines and tags. Evaluated, improved and uploaded student videos. Shared YouTube videos on Twitter and Facebook with relevant hashtags, handles and visually compelling thumbnails. Since taking over the account in August 2017, our subscribers grew by 75 percent, we gained 31,778 new views, and 79,823 watch time minutes. • Served as USF’s liaison with the Tampa Bay Association of Black Journalists to coordinate resume workshops for students, journalist panels and scholarship award banquets. • Served as the chair of the USF Digital Network Committee to showcase video content created by USF students, staff and faculty on usf.edu. Proposed upgrades to WUSF production studio and fiber lines connecting athletic venues for live sports broadcasts. • Collaborated with the Innovative Education department to publish student work on the USF Admissions blog and YouTube channel. • Collaborated with the USF Honors College to showcase stories created by my Advanced Reporting students on the Marshall Student Center video wall. Published student videos online to raise awareness about the USF Office of National Scholarships. • Collaborated with USF’s Access 3D Lab. Eight of my students’ videos were published to teach people how to use 3D lasers and printers. • Created a collaboration with the Hillsborough County newsroom to offer field trips to students, create and publish student stories on HTV and Hillsboroughcounty.org. • Collaborated with USF Health on medical school classes. Taught media students to shoot video and audio of medical school simulations. Guest lectured in medical school classes to prepare students to confidently and clearly speak on camera.

• Oversaw collaboration with a two-day USF Humanities conference where I taught my students to record and edit a 24-hour multi-camera shoot. • Coordinated guest lectures from local news outlets like WFLA, WFTS, WUSF, WTSP and SNN to network and nurture student success. • Featured as a journalism expert in two interviews that aired on FOX13 Tampa April 30 and May 1, 2018.
