The Story Coming in the Medicine Hat Tigers Finished the First Half of Their 50Th Anniversary Season with a 22-10-1-0 Record. Al The Story Coming In The Medicine Hat Tigers finished the first half of their 50th anniversary season with a 22-10-1-0 record. Although the Tigers lost their last two matches before the holiday break, they will be looking to return to their winning ways in tonight’s contest with the Swift Current Broncos. After tonight, the Tabbies will return home to host the Calgary Hitmen for the first of three back to back games with Calgary over the next week. The Tigers are led by their Captain James Hamblin with 52 points (18G, 34A). Tigers vs. Broncos For the third time this season, the Tigers will face off against the Broncos. The two previous meetings between these two hockey clubs were during a home and home series in late September. The Tigers defeated the Broncos 2-0 in Swift Current before winning 10-1 in Medicine Hat the next night. Captain James Hamblin has five points (2G, 3A) in the series so far. Over the past five years, Medicine Hat is 10-4-0-0 against Swift Current and 4-3-0-0 when playing at the Credit Union iPlex. The next battle between these two teams will be a home and home series Jan 28 in Medicine Hat and Jan 31 in Swift Current. View from Swift Current The Swift Current Broncos finished the first half of the season with a 6-22-1-2 record and they will be hungry for a win in tonight’s game. After tonight the Broncos will play a home and home series against the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Saturday they will travel to Lethbridge before returning home to host the ‘Canes on Monday. The Broncos are led by veteran forward Ethan Regnier with 15 points (7G, 8A). Tigers Talent Bryan Lockner is a hardworking, gritty forward in his third season with the Orange and Black. The 19- year-old Windsor CO product has a lethal shot and a powerful stride. This season Lockner has shifted from the wing to playing centre because of his ability to be a two-way forward. Look for Lockner to make an impact in both ends of the ice tonight. Captain’s Corner Captain James Hamblin is tied for first in the league in scoring with 52 points (18G, 34A) and leading the league in assists with 34. The 20-year-old Edmonton product is an offensive generator for the Tigers and a fierce forechecker who leads his team by example with his tireless work ethic. Since being drafted in the first round of the 2014 Bantam Draft by the Tigers, Hamblin has played 294 games, scored 97 goals and collected 147 assists. Quick Hits Cole Sillinger is leading the league in rookie scoring with 35 points (12G, 23A) in 28 games played. Sillinger is also second in the league for power play assists with 16. Mads Søgaard’s first career shutout was against the Swift Current Broncos Nov 17, 2018, in a 2-0 Tigers win. Søgaard stopped 48 shots in the contest while Ryan Chyzowski scored both goals for the Tabbies in the first period of the game. Jonathan Brinkman scored his first career WHL goal against the Swift Current Broncos Sep 28, 2019, in the Tigers’ 10-1 victory. Four Tigers are in the top 25 in the league for scoring. James Hamblin is tied for first with 52 points (18G, 34A), Brett Kemp is 12th with 40 points (15G, 25A), Cole Sillinger is 22nd with 35 points (12G, 23A) and Ryan Chyzowski is 25th with 34 points (16G, 18A). Eight Tigers Prospects are participating in the Mac’s AAA World Invitational Hockey Tournament in Calgary: Oasiz Wiesblatt (Calgary Buffaloes), Ryan Nolan (Calgary Northstars), Beckett Langkow (Fort Saskatchewan BP Rangers), Emanuel Hudson (Lethbridge Hurricanes), Caden Cabana (Lloydminster Inland Steel Bobcats), Teague Patton (Okanagan Rockets), Ashton Ferster (Prince Albert Mintos) and Tyler Mackenzie (Red Deer Optimist Chiefs). About the Medicine Hat Tigers The Medicine Hat Tigers are a junior hockey team in the Western Hockey League (WHL) who play out of Medicine Hat, AB and were established in 1970. In 49 seasons of playing major junior hockey, the Tigers have won 2 Scotty Munro Memorial Trophies, as well as, 212 playoff games which led to winning 43 playoff series, raising 33 banners, winning five Ed Chynoweth Cups and two Memorial Cups. .

The Tigers defeated the Hitmen 3-1 Saturday in Medicine Hat before falling 4-2 on Wednesday in Calgary. The Orange and Black are 23-11-1-1 and they are led by their Captain James Hamblin with 55 points (19G, 36A) and veteran forward Brett Kemp with 43 points (16G, 27A). After tonight’s game, the Tabbies will host the Seattle Thunderbirds on Saturday before departing early next week to Manitoba to take on the Brandon Wheat Kings Tuesday and the Winnipeg ICE on Wednesday. Tigers vs. Hitmen Tonight’s game between the Tigers and the Hitmen will be their third meeting in seven days and their fifth battle of the season. The Hitmen won all three games played at the Saddledome and the Tabbies have won the lone game played at the Canalta Centre. After tonight, Medicine Hat and Calgary will not meet again until March 6th at the Canalta Centre. The Tigers are 11-9-2-0 against the Hitmen over the past five years and 7-2-1-0 when playing at home. A trio of Tigers have four points in the four games played in the series so far – Ryan Chyzowksi (3G, 1A), James Hamblin (1G, 3A) and Cole Sillinger (1G, 3A).
