We believe helium extraction is an exciting growth industry, with an expanding set >$1,000/mcf of new exploration and production companies focused on this increasingly Price being paid for helium by valuable commodity. We see recent pricing at around US$250-300/mcf for some end users producers, with end users paying >$1,000/mcf, versus the US Henry Hub natural gas price of ~US$3/mcf. The extra volume under the fairing of Bloostar, combined with its smoother ride, is giving satellite designers greater freedom to concentrate the mass of their satellites into useful systems. The inherent ease of re-use of Bloostar architecture is in line with the new Space Strategy for Europe1 being fostered by the European Commission (EC). La verdad es que han transcurrido tres meses desde ese anuncio, casi se ha pasado el verano y, como en el estrambote del soneto cervantino, “fuese y no hubo nada”. Ni siquiera parece haberse abordado la “nueva” Estrategia de Seguridad Nacional cuya aprobación se anunció para antes del verano y aún sigue vi - gente la “vieja” aprobada el 1 de diciembre de 2017, tal como figura en la web oficial del Ministerio de Defensa. ¿Se trataba de un globo-sonda para alegrar los oídos de los profesionales aeroespaciales y la industria de un sector declarado estratégico en nuestro país y que desde hace tanto tiempo lleva reclamando la creación de la Agencia Espacial Española? A mediados de mayo, cuando aún el Gobierno no se había pronunciado oficialmente sobre la creación de la Agencia, esta revista, Actualidad Aero - espacial, en una entrevista con el entonces ministro de Ciencia e Innova - ción, Pedro Duque, que publicó en su número espacial del pasado mes de junio, le preguntó por esta posibilidad y el todavía miembro del Ejecutivo, que hasta entonces había negado esa necesidad, ahora abría la puerta: “Cla - ramente, una agencia espacial a nivel de España se podría hacer”.

    SSC21- IV-07 Small Launchers in a Pandemic World - 2021 Edition of the Annual Industry Survey Carlos Niederstrasser Northrop Grumman Corporation 45101 Warp Drive, Dulles, VA 20166 USA; +1.703.406.5504 [email protected] ABSTRACT Even with the challenges posed by the world-wide COVID pandemic, small vehicle "Launch Fever" has not abated. In 2015 we first presented this survey at the AIAA/USU Conference on Small Satellites1, and we identified twenty small launch vehicles under development. By mid-2021 ten vehicles in this class were operational, 48 were identified under development, and a staggering 43 more were potential new entrants. Some are spurred by renewed government investment in space, such as what we see in the U.K. Others are new commercial entries from unexpected markets such as China. All are inspired by the success of SpaceX and the desire to capitalize on the perceived demand caused by the mega constellations. In this paper we present an overview of the small launch vehicles under development today. When available, we compare their capabilities, stated mission goals, cost and funding sources, and their publicized testing progress. We also review the growing number of entrants that have dropped out since we first started this report. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, one system became operational in the past 12 months and two or three more systems hope to achieve their first successful launch in 2021. There is evidence that this could be the year when the small launch market finally becomes saturated; however, expectations continue to be high and many new entrants hope that there is room for more providers.
