TRANSIT VISIT OF YAB DATO’ SERI , DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER OF MALAYSIA TO GUANGZHOU On 9 January 2017, YBhg. Dato’ Abdul Rahim, the Yang di-Pertua (YDP) Taiping led a delegation to undertake a YAB Dato’ Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, study visit Shenzhen and Guangzhou Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia from 8-10 January 2017. VISIT TO HOMS ELECTRODOMESTIC (ZHUHAI) CO. LTD IN ZHUHAI, GUANGDONG PROVINCE On 12 January 2017, Mr. Muzambli Markam, the Consul General of Malaysia in Guangzhou accompanied by Mr. Abdul Razak Junaidi, Consul (Immigration); Mr. Nazuki Abdullah, Consul (Investment); Ms. Zaimah Osman, Consul (Trade); Mr. E Kim Tien, Consul (Information) and Ms. Sharon Ho Consul Tourism visited HOMS Electrodomestic (Zhuhai) Co. Ltd located in Zhuhai, Guangdong. The delegation was received by Mr. Nick Koay, Managing Director of the company along with several of its top management staff. HOMS is a Malaysian owned company involved in OEM manufacturing of kitchen cabinet and kitchen appliances for export. The delegation was given a comprehensive briefing and a tour around the company’s facilities.

VISIT TO FGVCO AND JS LAMP INTERNATIONAL LTD. LOCATED IN DONGGUAN AND HUMEN, GUANGDONG PROVINCE On 17 January 2017, Mr. Muzambli Markam, the Consul General of Malaysia in Guangzhou accompanied by Mr. Abdul Razak Junaidi, Consul (Immigration); Ms. Zaimah Osman, Consul (Trade); Mr. E Kim Tien, Consul (Information) and Ms. Sharon Ho Consul Tourism visited two Malaysian owned companies, namely FGVCO in Dongguan and JS Lamp International Co. located in Humen, Guang- dong Province. The delegation was received by General Manager/Managing Director along with several of the two companies top management staff. FGVCO is a subsidiary Felda Global Venture involve in mainly importing and storing edible palm oil while JS Lamp International Co. is involved in manufacturing and supplying high end lightings to international clients in China and abroad. The delegation was given comprehensive briefing and tour around by both companies.

CHINESE NEW YEAR 2007 CELEBRATION

‘CHINESE NEW YEAR 2017 CELEBRATION’ HOSTED BY THE TOURISM SECTION, CONSULATE GENERAL OF MALAYSIA IN GUANGZHOU On 10 February 2017, the Tourism Section at the Consulate General of Malaysia in Guangzhou organised a Chinese New Year celebration for members of the media and key partners in the tourism industry at its office on Friday, 10 February 2017. The event was hosted by Mrs. Sharon Ho, Tourism Consul and other Tourism staff. Also present at the event was Mr. Muzambli Markam, Consul General and other Heads of Department. The highlight of the event was the traditional “Yee Sang or Lou Sang” where all invitees were asked to join the session.

‘CHINESE NEW YEAR 2017 OPEN HOUSE’ HOSTED AT THE RUMAH MALAYSIA IN GUANGZHOU In line with the spirit of Muhibah, Mr. Muzambli Markam, the Consul General of Malaysia hosted a Chine New Year @ Chap Goh Meh Open House for the Malaysian community residing in Guangzhou on Saturday, 11 February 2017. The event was co-organized with the Malaysian Association in Guangdong (MAG) at the Rumah Malaysia in Guangzhou. The open house which began from 12.00pm till 3.30pm was attended by Malaysians from all walks of life and difference faith residing in and around Guangdong province. Guests were feted with various Malaysian dishes. Not to be outdone was the traditional “Yee Sang or Lou Sang” where representatives of the Malaysian communities were asked to join the session. More than 120 Malaysians including Consulate General’s staff and family members attended the event.

DINNER HOSTED BY MR. MUZAMBLI MARKAM IN HONOUR OF MR. LI JIAN, DEPUTY DIRECTOR GENERAL OF GUANGDONG FOREIGN AFFAIRS OFFICE AT RUMAH MALAYSIA In an effort to promote greater understanding and closer ties with the Guangdong Government, Mr. Muzambli Markam, the Consul General hosted a working dinner with Mr. Li Jian, Deputy Director General of Guangdong Foreign Affairs Office along with several his officials at Rumah Malaysia in Guangzhou. The dinner was attended by the other Head of Departments from the Consulate General. During the dinner, both sides discussed various issues of mutual interest and took the opportunity to reflect on the many successes achieved between Malaysia and Guangdong Province within the last few years.

VISIT OF ND LALA AND SHILA AMZAH TO THE CONSULATE GENERAL OF MALAYSIA IN GUANGZHOU On 22 February 2017, the Consulate General of Malaysia received the visit from Mr. Amir Amzah Salleh@ND Lala and Ms. Nurshahila Amir Amzah@Shila Amzah who is also the Tourism Ambassador for Malaysia. Her visit was at the invitation of the Consulate General to hold discussion about possible collaboration to jointly promote Malaysia in Southern China, particularly in areas under the jurisdiction of the Consulate General in Guangzhou. During the visit, Ms. Shila was briefed on the role and functions of the Consulate General and the latest tourism activities undertaken by the Consulate General to promote Malaysia in Guangdong in particular.

SITE VISIT TO THE PROPOSED MALAYSIA-CHINA FRIENDSHIP GARDEN IN DONGGUAN BOTANICAL GARDEN, GUANGDONG PROVINCE On 25 February 2017, Mr. Muzambli Markam, the Consul General of Malaysia in Guangzhou accompanied by Mr. Abdul Razak Junaidi, Consul (Immigration); Mr. Nazuki Abdullah, Consul (Investment); Mr. E Kim Tien, Consul (Information); Mrs. Zaimah Osman, Consul (Trade) and Mrs. Sharon Ho, Consul (Tourism) undertook a site visit to the proposed location where the Malaysia-China Friendship Garden will be build. The site which was located within the Dongguan Botanical Garden had been allocated by the Dongguan Municipality to reciprocate the China-Malaysia Friendship Garden in Putrajaya. The Malaysian delegation was briefed on the plans and the time frame of the construction for the project. The delegation was received by a technical team from Perbadanan Putrajaya who was on site to supervise the building of the project, representatives from the Dongguan Foreign Affairs Office, Director of the Dongguan Botanical Garden.

VISIT OF MS. AIREEN OMAR, CEO OF AIRASIA, TO THE CONSULATE GENERAL OF MALAYSIA IN GUANGZHOU, GUANGDONG PROVINCE Ms. Aireen Omar, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Airasia, the region’s leading low cost carrier made a courtesy call on Mr. Muzambli Markam, the Malaysian Consul General at the latter’s office on 28 February 2017. During the meeting, Ms. Aireen briefed Mr. Muzambli on the airlines plans to further expand its routes in China via Airasia X. Airasia is currently the biggest foreign airline plying numerous routes to and from China to various destinations in Southeast Asia. Guangzhou is the most important city as Airasia has more than 6 daily flights from Guangzhou to Malaysia. On his part, Mr. Muzambli expressed the Consulate General’s support for Airasia’s planned expansion in China. At the same time, he expressed his appreciation to Airasia for the continuous support rendered by the airlines in cooperating with the Consulate General to promote Malaysia from time to time, especially activities undertaken by the Tourism Section.

VISITED THE MALAYSIAN RUBBER EXPORT PROMOTION COUNCIL (MREPC) BOOTH AT THE 22nd DENTAL SOUTH CHINA INTERNATIONAL EXPO IN PAZHOU, GUANGZHOU FROM 3-5 MARCH 2017

The Malaysian Rubber Export Promotion Council (MREPC) participated in the 22nd Dental South China International Expo held in Pazhou, Guangzhou from 3-5 March 2017. Also present were several Malaysian companies involved in the medical equipment industry including manufacturers of rubber based products.

At the invitation of the MREPC Director in Guangzhou, Malaysia’s Consul General, Mr. Muzambli Markam and Mrs. Zaimah Osman, Consul (Trade) visited the former’s booth at the Expo and met with the Malaysian exhibitors on 3 March 2017.

VISIT TO THE GUANGZHOU CANTONESE OPERA ART MUSEUM AND A “TEAM BUILDING SESSION” ORGANIZED BY PERWAKILAN GUANGZHOU FOR HOME BASED STAFF AND FAMILY MEMBERS ON 4 MARCH 2017 In an effort to strengthen the bond among members of the Home Based Staff and family members at the Consulate General of Malaysia in Guangzhou, PERWAKILAN GUANGZHOU had organized a family outing to the Guangzhou Cantonese Opera Art Museum and a team building session at the Galatica Laser Tag, both situated in the Liwan District, Guangzhou on 4 March 2017. During the visit to Guangzhou Cantonese Opera Art Museum, the delegation was given a special tour and briefing around the museum ground and its historical buildings. The Director and Chief Curator of the museum was at hand to receive the delegation. Meanwhile, both adults and children of the Consulate General participated in the “Team Building” exercise in the laser tag arena and enjoyed their time together. Kudos to PERWAKILAN GUANGZHOU for successfully organizing the outing.

DINNER HOSTED BY THE CONSULATE GENERAL OF MALAYSIA IN HONOUR OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERATION OF MALAYSIAN LIM ASSOCIATION AND DELEGATION HELD AT SHERATON ZHUHAI, GUANGDONG. On 18 March 2017, the Consulate General of Malaysia hosted a dinner in conjunction with the visit of the Federation of Malaysian Lim Association led by its President, YBhg. Tan Sri Lim Hock San to Zhuhai, Guangdong Province. The event was held at the Sheraton Zhuhai Hotel. Presents were Mr. Muzambli Markam, the Consul General, members of the Consulate General home based staff and about 30 members of the Federation of Malaysian Lim Association Youth Wing. During the dinner, the attendees took the opportunity to discuss various issues of mutual interest and exchange views on how best to further promote closer people-to-people ties between Malaysia and China

PRESENTATION OF WOODEN CARVING OF PAHLAWAN SANGKUH TO THE GUANGDONG GOVERNMENT AT THE FOREIGN AFFAIRS MUSEUM IN GUANGZHOU As a gesture of goodwill and to foster closer ties between Malaysia and Guangdong Province, the Consulate General of Malaysia presented a wooden carving of Pahlawan Sangkuh (Iban warrior) made of timber from Sarawak State, Malaysia to the Guangdong Foreign Affairs Office. A simple presentation ceremony was held at the Foreign Affairs Museum in Guangzhou on 20 March 2017 during which Mr. Muzambli Markam, the Consul General handed over the wooden frame carving to Mr. Chen Qiuyan, Director General of the Guangdong Foreign Affairs Office.

WORKING VISIT OF SARAWAK

WORKING VISIT OF YAB DATUK AMAR ABANG HAJI ABDUL RAHMAN BIN TUN ABANG HAJI OPENG, CHIEF MINISTER OF SARAWAK STATE TO GUANGDONG PROVINCE. YAB Datuk Amar Abang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Tun Abang Haji Openg, Chief Minister of Sarawak State led a delegation to undertake a working visit to Foshan and Guangzhou, Guangdong Province from 22-24 March 2017. During the visit, YAB Datuk Amar visited Foshan Conceiving Board-Manufacturing Co, Ltd. factory in Foshan and witnessed the signing of Heads of Agreement between Smart Housing R&D Sdn. Bhhd. and Foshan Conceiving Board-Manufacturing Co, Ltd. to court investment and provide affordable housing in Sarawak. The Sarawak Chief Minister was accompanied by YB Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Morshidi bin Abdul Ghani, State Secretary and other senior State Ministers and Deputies. The delegation was received by Mr. Muzambli Markam, the Consul General of Malaysia and other Consulate General’s staff. In line with the Sarawak Chief Minister’s vision to promote and encourage digital economy in Sarawak, the delegation met with senior officials from Huawei Malaysia in Foshan and was briefed on the latest technological platform available and how best the company could assist Sarawak to realize its goal in transforming Sarawak’s information and technology landscape. Following the meeting, several members of the Sarawak delegation visited Huawei’s Headquarters in Shenzhen to further understand the company’s operation. Overall, the Chief Minister’s visit to Guangdong was successful with the aim to promote closer link especially in the field of investment and ICT cooperation between Sarawak and Guangdong in particular, Malaysia and China in general.

COURTESY CALL BY MR. GUO YU KUN, EXECUTIVE PRESIDENT OF GUANGDONG GENERAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE (CGCC) On 31 March 2017, Mr. Guo Yu Kun, Executive President of Guangdong General Chamber of Commerce paid a courtesy call on Mr. Muzambli Markam, Consul General of Malaysia at the Trade Section, Consulate General’s office in Guangzhou. During the meeting, Mr. Guo introduced CGCC to the Consul General and briefed on the role and activities undertaken by the Chamber. Both sides agreed to work together and explore possible collaboration in areas such as promoting bilateral trade and investment between Malaysia and Guangdong. Also present during the meeting was Mr. Azhar Othman, Deputy Trade Consul and other senior representatives from CGCC.

VISIT OF HIS EXCELLENCY TAN SRI ONG KA TING, PRIME MINISTER’S SPECIAL ENVOY TO CHINA On 6 April 2017, His Excellency Tan Sri Ong Ka Ting, Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to China undertook a visit to the Malaysian Consulate General in Guangzhou. On hand to receive the Special Envoy was Mr. Muzambli Markam, the Consul General, Consuls and officers from the various agencies. During the visit, Tan Sri Ong Ka Ting was given a tour of the Consulate General’s premises which included the Immigration Section, MATRADE, MIDA, Tourism Malaysia’s office and the Visa One Stop Center. Tan Sri Ong also held discussion with the Consulate General’s officials on the various issues concerning Malaysia-Guangdong bilateral relations covering areas such as economy and tourism. In addition, a short working lunch was held at the Investment Section, Consulate General hosted in honour of Tan Sri Ong’s visit. ASEAN FRIENDSHIP BOWLING COMPETITION 2017 On 8 April 2017, an ASEAN Friendship Bowling Competition was organized by the Indonesian Consulate General. The event was held in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN was jointly supported by the Consulate General from Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. The Guangdong Foreign Affairs Office (GDFAO) was invited to join and duly sent representatives to participate in the competition. CAREER PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT Present at the event were Consuls General IN CHINA FORUM ORGANIZED BY MSAGD from Indonesia, Vietnam, Laos, Malaysia, the AT JINAN UNIVERSITY, GUANGZHOU Philippines, representative from the Consulate General of Thailand, Singapore and the Deputy On 15 April 2017, the Director General from GDFAO. Four (3) Malaysian Students Malaysian teams comprising of the Consulate Association in Guangdong General’s Home Based Staff and expatriates (MSAGD) organized a residing in Guangzhou took part in the event. Career Planning and Development in China Forum held at Jinan University in Guangzhou on 15 April 2017. The event was held to provide guidance to Malaysian graduates in charting their career in both Malaysia and China. The event was attended by about 40 Malaysian graduates from different universities in Guangdong Province. 7 speakers and panelist from the various private sectors presented their respective topics. Also in attendance was Mr. Muzambli Markam, Consul General of Malaysia and Mr. E Kim Tien, Information Consul to lend support to the event

OFFICIAL VISIT OF YB DATO’ SRI LIOW TIONG LAI, MINISTER OF TRANSPORT MALAYSIA TO CHANGSHA AND ZHUZHOU IN HUNAN PROVINCE YB Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai, Minister of Transport led a Malaysian delegation to undertake an official visit to Hunan Province from 11-14 April 2017. The Minister was accompanied by his wife, YBhg. Datin Sri Lee Sun Loo; Mr. Muzambli Markam, the Consul General of Malaysia in Guangzhou and other senior officials from the Ministry of Transport. During the visit, YB Minister met with His Excellency Xu Dazhe, the Governor of Hunan and held discussion on various issues of mutual interest. At the end of the meeting, both the Minister and the Governor jointly witnessed the signing of contract for the Supply of 13 sets of Diesel Multiple Unit for KTMB and Additional Electric Set between the Ministry of Transport Malaysia and CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co., Ltd. As part of the official programme, YB Minister and delegation visited the Headquarters of CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co., Ltd. and their manufacturing facilities located in Zhuzhou. The delegation also met with Mr. Mao Tengfei, the Party Secretary and Mr. Yang Weiguo, Mayor of Zhuzhou. In Changsha, YB Minister visited the Headquarters of Hunan TV, one of the leading TV channel with huge following all over China.

ASEAN CG GOLF CUP 2017 HELD AT HOLIDAY ISLAND GOLF COURSE, GUANGDONG PROVINCE The Malaysian Consulate General in Guangzhou organized the ASEAN CG Golf Cup 2017 at the Holiday Island Golf Course in Qingyuan, Guangdong Province on Sunday, 23 April 2017. The event was jointly supported by the Consulate General from Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

The Consuls General from Laos, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and India all participated in the event. The Consul General from Singapore joined the luncheon held immediately after the tournament. The purpose of the event was to promote a healthy lifestyle and foster closer ties between the Consulates General in line with the spirit of ASEAN. Players from Vietnam, and Malaysia emerged as the best players while players from the other countries also won prizes for other categories.

GROUND BREAKING CEREMONY OF THE MALAYSIA-CHINA FRIENDSHIP GARDEN IN DONGGUAN BOTANICAL GARDEN, GUANGDONG PROVINCE On 28 April 2017, the Ministry of Federal Territory (KWP) Malaysia and the Dongguan Municipality jointly organized the Ground Breaking ceremony for the Malaysia-China Friendship Garden in Dongguan Botanical Garden. From the Malaysian side, YBhg. Datuk Sri Adnan Bin Hj. Md Ikhsan, Secretary General of KWP was present while the Dongguan side was represented by Mr. Huang Qinghui, the Vice Mayor. Also present were Mr. Muzambli Markam, the Consul General of Malaysia in Guangzhou and YBhg. Dato’ Abdul Majid Khan, President of the Malaysia- China Friendship Association and other Dongguan officials. The Malaysia-China Friendship Garden which is designed to depict a traditional Melaka-styled Malay house with typical Malaysian village landscape is scheduled to be completed by September 2017.
