  • King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Sponsored by QIPCO)
King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Sponsored by QIPCO) Ascot Racecourse Background Information for the 65th Running Saturday, July 25, 2015 Winners of the Investec Derby going on to the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Sponsored by QIPCO) Unbeaten Golden Horn, whose victories this year include the Investec Derby and the Coral-Eclipse, will try to become the 14th Derby winner to go on to success in Ascot’s midsummer highlight, the Group One King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Sponsored by QIPCO), in the same year and the first since Galileo in 2001. Britain's premier all-aged 12-furlong contest, worth a boosted £1.215 million this year, takes place at 3.50pm on Saturday, July 25. Golden Horn extended his perfect record to five races on July 4 in the 10-furlong Group One Coral- Eclipse at Sandown Park, beating older opponents for the first time in great style. The three-year-old Cape Cross colt, owned by breeder Anthony Oppenheimer and trained by John Gosden in Newmarket, captured Britain's premier Classic, the Investec Derby, over 12 furlongs at Epsom Downs impressively on June 6 after being supplemented following a runaway Betfred Dante Stakes success at York in May. If successful at Ascot on July 25, Golden Horn would also become the fourth horse capture the Derby, Eclipse and King George in the same year. ËËË Three horses have completed the Derby/Eclipse/King George treble in the same year - Nashwan (1989), Mill Reef (1971) and Tulyar (1952). ËËË The 2001 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes saw Galileo become the first Derby winner at Epsom Downs to win the Ascot contest since Lammtarra in 1995.

  • Frankie on Snowfall in Cazoo Oaks
THURSDAY, 3 JUNE 2021 FRANKIE ON SNOWFALL LAST CALL FOR BREEZERS AT GORESBRIDGE IN NEWMARKET By Emma Berry IN CAZOO OAKS NEWMARKET, UKCCA little later than scheduled, the European 2-year-old sales season will conclude on Thursday with the Tattersalls Ireland Goresbridge Breeze-up, which has returned to Newmarket for a second year owing to ongoing Covid travel restrictions. What was already a bumper catalogue for a one-day sale of more than 200 horses has been beefed up still by the inclusion of 16 wild cards that have been rerouted from other recent sales for a variety of reasons. They include horses with some pretty starry pedigrees, so be prepared for some of the major action to take place late in the day. Indeed the last three catalogued all have plenty to recommend them on paper. Lot 241 from Mayfield Stables is the American Pharoah colt out of the Irish champion 2-year-old filly Damson (Ire) (Entrepreneur). • Starship Jubilee Hitting Best Stride at Age Seven
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 19, 2020 STARSHIP JUBILEE HITTING REPORTS OF ERRONEOUS TIMES LEAD TO CONCERN ABOUT ACCURACY OF NEW BEST STRIDE AT AGE SEVEN EQUIBASE TIMING SYSTEM by Bill Finley When the horses in the fourth race at Del Mar Aug. 1 crossed the wire, the final time for the mile-and-a-sixteenth turf race was posted as 1:41.18. There was no reason to believe the race was mistimed and no announcements to that effect were made, but when the official chart was released by Equibase the time was listed as 1:40.80. It happened again in the next race on the card, a mile dirt race originally timed in 1:38.60, but changed to 1:38.53 in the official chart. It didn=t stop there. Over the Aug. 1-2 weekend, the times of seven races from Del Mar were updated in the chart and different from what was posted on the infield board when the horses crossed the wire. The differences were as small as .07 seconds as big as 1.19 seconds.
