The oldest of the three Gatlin brothers, he was by age seven, already accompanying younger brothers, Steve and Rudy in singing at family and church events. After high school, Larry went to the University of Houston on a football scholarship. Larry majored in English and developed “a love affair with the English Language” that later served him in his songwriting. On the strength of his songwriting talents, Larry Gatlin became known throughout Nashville Music Industry. Gatlin penned all 33 of the brothers’ Top 40 Hits. While Steve and Rudy were finishing college, Larry was already touring the small club and listening room circuit as a solo act, looking forward to the time when he could afford to expand his live show to include his brothers. December 1992 marked a farewell to concert touring for the Gatlin brothers. Then came a major turning point in his career. Larry took the lead role in the Tony award winning best musical “The Will Rogers Follies.” In 2008, for the first time in 17 years, Larry Gatlin & the Gatlin Brothers reunited as a band, returning to the road and released Pilgrimage on Curb Records. Today, Larry and the boys maintain a healthy tour schedule and, as members, play the Grand Ole Opry many times each year. The close family harmonies of Larry, Rudy and Steve Gatlin gave the trio a signature sound that led to country classics like “Houston (Means I’m One Day Closer To You).” The brothers won a GRAMMY Award for their 1976 breakthrough hit, “Broken Lady, ” and reached #1 with “I Just Wish You Were Someone I Love” two years later. Along with five career nominations for the ACM Vocal Group, the Gatlin Brothers picked up three 1979 trophies – Single of the Year (“All The Gold In California”), Album of the Year (Straight Ahead) and Male Vocalist of the Year for Larry. To date, the brothers hold 36 Top 40 Hits to their credit. Larry is a regular guest contributor to the Fox News Channel, Fox Business Network, Fox News Radio and FoxNews.com. Larry is a family man, who shares with his wife Janis, a home in Nashville, Tennessee. They are the proud parents of two children, Josh and Kristin. Larry is also a grandfather or “Papa” to Kristin’s daughters, Parker and Campbell. ### ABOUT THE MARCUS CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS Established in 1969, the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts is the premier performing arts community gathering space in Southeastern Wisconsin. September 3 2019, Issue 669 Pick Six: Label Draft 2019 Seven years ago, Country Aircheck’s Fantasy Label Draft began as an entertaining forum for radio pros to chat about artists and make bold predictions for the year to come. For the first six seasons, VP/GM Chuck Aly served as commissioner and declared winners based upon a method that is just questionable enough to have come from the New England Patriots’ camp, “Chuck’s Eyeball Test.” But this is 2019, and all bets are off. No participation trophies here! What good is a game without a winner? And how do you declare a winner without a score? As a new commissioner takes the field, a painstaking analysis was done to determine a fair- yet-competitive points system, which has been ratified by this year’s ownership group – KUPL/Portland’s MoJoe Roberts; KFRG/ Riverside, CA’s Heather Kind Of A Pig Deal: Premiere’s Bobby Bones, coach Chad Morris, Froglear; KRYS/Corpus Valory’s Justin Moore and singer/songwriter Joe Nichols (l-r) at MoJoe Roberts Kay Manley the Arkansas Razorbacks game Saturday (8/31).
