As we get older, the years seem to go by faster. I have had a great year as President, and it is a great honour for me to be able to represent you all thoughout the year. It is something that I have a passion for, to promote Pure Jerseys. I would like to thank the committee for all there help though the year. We had a very successful year. We have gained new members, and have run successful events. Feature shows in Nanango, QLD, and Numurkah, Victoria were very well supported by members and Jersey Breeders alike. We also had success with the On Farm Challenges in both QLD and Victoria, with alot of entries for both challenges. The days were a huge success due to the entries and the sponsors, as if we didn’t have either of these we could not run these days. As a judge of the Victorian day with Os McDonald, and Harry Adams as our car driver, we got to see some top quality cattle and alot of country. With being involved in both QLD and Victorian Associations, it was great to see such a effort and support and smooth running of procedures, it was a great privilege to be involved with a great group of people. It was great to see the involvement from breeders at the rural shows, we need to support these events, to keep the country shows alive. I would like to thank all breeders for classifying cattle throughout the year, the classifiers for the time they put in to travel and do their job. And thank you to all the members for their support throughout the year. I wish you all a safe and Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. • Somerset Regional Council Local Disaster Management Plan
Somerset Regional Council Local Disaster Management Plan CONTROLLED COPY No._____ Somerset Regional Council Local Disaster Management Plan Part 1 Main Plan and Annexes 1 Preliminaries Version 2.00 Aug 09 Somerset Regional Council Local Disaster Management Plan Somerset Regional Council Local Disaster Management Plan 1. Preliminaries P1.01 Foreword from Chair of Somerset Regional Council Local Disaster Management Group Somerset Regional is a dynamic area of the Brisbane Valley in South East Queensland which is experiencing moderate growth and despite its idyllic lifestyle the area is occasionally subjected to the impact of disasters both natural and non-natural. The Shire has a wide range of topography, changing demographics and diversified industries; therefore there is a need for a dynamic and robust Local Disaster Management Plan. This local disaster management plan, prepared by the Somerset Regional Local Disaster Management Group under the authority of the Disaster Management Act 2003, forms the basis and guidelines for the Prevention, Preparedness, Response and Recovery activities of the joint agencies within the Somerset Regional Council area, when responding to a disaster that has impacted or has the potential to seriously impact upon the Shire’s communities and its infrastructure. Threat specific plans for the most likely threats such as flooding and emergency animal/plant disease have been developed along with supporting Operational Functional Plans. The plan is a dynamic document that will be kept up to date to match changes in legislation and reflect lessons learnt from natural disasters elsewhere in the State. Whilst as a community we may not be able to prevent disaster from occurring, we can through planning, prepare our community and enhance its resilience to the adverse impact of any threat.

1156 TOOGOOLAWAH AND UPPER BRISBANE RIVER VALLEY--1906-1908 [Summary of ADDRESS given by HORACE EVELYN FLOWER to the Historical Society of Queensland (Inc.) at Newstead House, on the night of Thursday, March 22, 1956.] Let me take you back with me to the beginning of July in the year 1906, when the Honourable Alfred Deakin was Prime Minister of the Commonwealth, and the Honourable William Kidston was the Premier of Queensland. Times were peaceful, employment was plentiful, and the price of goods extremely moderate compared with what we of to-day know, whilst income tax only affected a handful of people with large incomes, who paid sixpence in the pound, or some such nominal amount. As a young bank official of nineteen years of age, in the service of the Queensland National Bank Ltd., I was that day bound for the tiny village of Toogoolawah, then in its swaddling clothes. At the request of the McConnel interests, linked with "Cressbrook Station," various dairy-farming interests, and their condensed- milk factory, the Q.N. Bank Ltd. had agreed to provide a branch of the bank in Toogoolawah. William James (promoted from accountant of the Burketown Branch) had been appointed as manager, and I was to be his assistant on a salary of £65 per annum, with an allow ance of £35 per annum. The manager was paid £150 salary and £50 allowance, or a total of £200 per annum from which he had to provide his own means of trans port and keep up the appearance of the bank required of its managers.
