Project Overview 1.1. This application is for a flue at Brookside waste depot, owned by Broadland District Council. The flue will form part of a 70kW biomass installation, to heat the offices and workshop at the Veolia Environment Services domestic waste vehicle depot. 1.2. The site currently has oil fired heating, which heat a workshop and office at the depot. The new heating system will replace the oil boiler with a biomass boiler. 1.3. This biomass installation will drastically reduce the carbon emissions of this site. 2. Application Site 2.1. The address of this site is: Brookside Depot Buxton Rd, Frettenham, Norwich, Norfolk, NR12 7NQ 2.2. Brookside Depot is owned by Broadland District Council, and operated by Veolia Environment Services as a transport depot and office for domestic waste services. 2.3. NORFOLK THROUGH A LENS A guide to the Photographic Collections held by Norfolk Library & Information Service 2 NORFOLK THROUGH A LENS A guide to the Photographic Collections held by Norfolk Library & Information Service History and Background The systematic collecting of photographs of Norfolk really began in 1913 when the Norfolk Photographic Survey was formed, although there are many images in the collection which date from shortly after the invention of photography (during the 1840s) and a great deal which are late Victorian. In less than one year over a thousand photographs were deposited in Norwich Library and by the mid- 1990s the collection had expanded to 30,000 prints and a similar number of negatives. The devastating Norwich library fire of 1994 destroyed around 15,000 Norwich prints, some of which were early images. Fortunately, many of the most important images were copied before the fire and those copies have since been purchased and returned to the library holdings. In 1999 a very successful public appeal was launched to replace parts of the lost archive and expand the collection. Today the collection (which was based upon the survey) contains a huge variety of material from amateur and informal work to commercial pictures. This includes newspaper reportage, portraiture, building and landscape surveys, tourism and advertising. There is work by the pioneers of photography in the region; there are collections by talented and dedicated amateurs as well as professional art photographers and early female practitioners such as Olive Edis, Viola Grimes and Edith Flowerdew. More recent images of Norfolk life are now beginning to filter in, such as a village survey of Ashwellthorpe by Richard Tilbrook from 1977, groups of Norwich punks and Norfolk fairs from the 1980s by Paul Harley and re-development images post 1990s.

  • Parish Registers and Transcripts in the Norfolk Record Office
Parish Registers and Transcripts in the Norfolk Record Office This list summarises the Norfolk Record Office’s (NRO’s) holdings of parish (Church of England) registers and of transcripts and other copies of them. Parish Registers The NRO holds registers of baptisms, marriages, burials and banns of marriage for most parishes in the Diocese of Norwich (including Suffolk parishes in and near Lowestoft in the deanery of Lothingland) and part of the Diocese of Ely in south-west Norfolk (parishes in the deanery of Fincham and Feltwell). Some Norfolk parish records remain in the churches, especially more recent registers, which may be still in use. In the extreme west of the county, records for parishes in the deanery of Wisbech Lynn Marshland are deposited in the Wisbech and Fenland Museum, whilst Welney parish records are at the Cambridgeshire Record Office. The covering dates of registers in the following list do not conceal any gaps of more than ten years; for the populous urban parishes (such as Great Yarmouth) smaller gaps are indicated. Whenever microfiche or microfilm copies are available they must be used in place of the original registers, some of which are unfit for production. A few parish registers have been digitally photographed and the images are available on computers in the NRO's searchroom. The digital images were produced as a result of partnership projects with other groups and organizations, so we are not able to supply copies of whole registers (either as hard copies or on CD or in any other digital format), although in most cases we have permission to provide printout copies of individual entries.

  • Norton Marshes to Haddiscoe Dismantled
This area inspired the artist Sir J. A. Arnesby 16 Yare Valley - Norton Marshes to Brown (1866-1955) who lived each summer Haddiscoe Dismantled Railway at The White House, Haddiscoe. Herald of the Night, Sir J.A.Arnesby-Brown Why is this area special? This is a vast area of largely drained marshland which lies to the south of the Rivers Yare and Waveney. It traditionally formed part of the parishes of Norton (Subcourse), Thurlton, Thorpe and Haddiscoe along with a detached part of Raveningham. It would have had a direct connection to what is now known as Haddiscoe Island, prior to the construction of the New Cut which connected the Yare and Waveney together to avoid having to travel across Breydon Water. There are few houses within this marshland area. Those that exist are confined to those locations 27 where there were, or are transport links across NORFOLK the rivers. The remainder of the settlements have 30 28 developed in a linear way hugging the edges of the southern river valley side. 22 31 23 29 The Haddiscoe Dam road provides the main 24 26 connection north-south from Haddiscoe village to 25 NORWICH St Olaves. 11 20 Gt YARMOUTH 10 12 19 21 A journey on the train line from Norwich to 14 9 Lowestoft which follows the line of the New Cut 13 15 18 16 and then hugs the northern side of the Waveney 17 Valley provides a glorious way to view this area as 8 7 public rights of way into the middle of the marshes LOWESTOFT 6 4 (other than the fully navigable river) are few and 2 3 1 5 far between.

  • Upton-Report-2017
Upton with Fishley Parish Council Report to Chairman Parish Councillors and Residents 2017 Frank O'Neill - Broadland District Council Member for Blofield with South Walsham Date: 20 April 2017 This is my second Annual Report since I was elected to represent residents of Blofield with South Walsham. The Ward encompasses the following parishes: Blofield to include Blofield Heath; Hemblington; South Walsham; Upton with Fishley and Woodbastwick to include Ranworth, Panxworth. Quite what should go into this report I am still not sure. What follows is therefore a potpourri of events and issues that have drawn my attention through the year. Property development within the villages is an issue that always focuses attention. Change is not always good but some change is inevitable. Of course the greatest development activity is in Blofield but other parishes are not immune. I will not dwell on individual cases where the issues and outcomes are already known. This report comes primarily to the elected representatives of this parish. It is with them I have most regular contact. through the year. Might I ask that this report is published on the Parish web site for circulation in the wider community? I would be grateful. Due to drainage, not much has been done on site. • The site beside Heathlands on Woodbastwick Road also proposes to link up to this drainage path, there’s the issue of whether that also renders this site unworkable because of drainage. • The drainage strategy passed for Dawsons Lane is non-compliant and site specific for 12 properties and a small section of adoptable road, rest to be porous brick within the development itself.
