Getting Started Pre-requisites for the Experiment: To perform the experiment you need a java- enabled web browser. Test Whether Your Browser is Java Enabled or Not: Test whether your browser configured to Java Applet Environment or not through following URL: http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp This will be shown if Java is already inst alled . This will be shown if Java is not installed . Installing Java For Linux: Method 1 Install openjdk using the following command from your terminal sudo apt-get install openjdk-7-jre Method 2 Install Oracle JRE Using PPA . Open the terminal and run the following commands: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ferramroberto/java sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre sun-java6-plugin sun-java6-fonts Note:- Please use one of the above method install diffrent version of JRE. After installing JRE using either Method 1 or Method 2, Install Java for browser – firefox/chrome. For running applets in your web browsers such as Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome, you need to install icedtea plugin . Execute the following command from your terminal sudo apt-get install icedtea6-plugin Note: Java can also be installed through the URL http://java.com/en/ For Windows: Install Java SE Runtime Environment 7 through following URL: http://www.java.com/en/download/ Step1 : Click on download button. Step2 : Save .exe file. Step 3 : Open .exe file which starts java installation in the following way. .

Creating a Swing Applet, Painting in Swing, A Paint example, Exploring Swing Controls- JLabel and Image Icon, JText Field, Applet Definition: Applets are small Java applications that can be accessed on an Internet server, transported over Internet, and can be automatically installed and run as apart of a web document. After a user receives an applet, the applet can produce a graphical user interface. It has limited access to resources so that it can run complex computations without introducing the risk of viruses or breaching data integrity. Any applet in Java is a class that extends the java.applet.Applet class. An Applet class does not have any main() method. It is viewed using JVM. The JVM can use either a plug-in of the Web browser or a separate runtime environment to run an applet application. JVM creates an instance of the applet class and invokes init() method to initialize an Applet. An applet is a Java program designed to be included in an HTML Web document. You can write your Java applet and include it in an HTML page. When you use a Java-enabled browser to view an HTML page that contains an applet, the applet's code is transferred to your system and is run by the browser's Java virtual machine. The HTML document contains tags, which specify the name of the Java applet and its Uniform Resource Locator (URL). The URL is the location at which the applet bytecodes reside on the Internet.
