In this session participants will learn how to build two custom enclosures, the Tyvek envelope and the 4 flap box. Session participants will be shown how to create each enclosure from start to finish and will be given pre-cut samples on which to practice. A good fit can play as large a role in preservation as the quality of materials we use and these custom enclosures can be produced with minimal equipment and time. Limited to 20 participants.

Contest participants give testimony to the value of archives in written essays and video submissions. In place of SAA’s national contest, the Society of Ohio Archivists conducted a state-wide “I Found it in the Archives” contest in Ohio this year. We’ll celebrate the story of this year’s contest winner, hear about challenges and successes in promoting archives through this contest from SOA Archives Month “I Found it in the Archives” subcommittee members and institutional participants, and assess the value of this promotion to strengthen and build relationships with archives users.

Learn how graduate students at Ohio Mark University turned a paper version of Historical Athens into a mobile walking tour. The augmented reality game uses mobile media learning to engage its users in a quest to learn about the history of Athens by walking through the city in a virtual tour. Historical Athens follows the Historical Society’s paper version of the walking tour. By introducing characters and places using a map interface that is part of a larger narrative, users learn about navigation. Characters and plaques in the game share facts about their stories from the ‘first-person’ perspective allowing players to gain information about the lives and buildings that make up downtown Athens.
