Champs, Seattle Stephan Scott-Ellis, a junior from Tacoma, won the men’s long jump and fin- ished second in the triple jump at the 2012 Mountain Pacific Sports Federa- MARCH tion Championships...Scott-Ellis long jumped a PR distance of 7.75m/25-5 1/4 Friday night to win...mark is 10th-best in WSU history...all three of Scott-Ellis’ 3 @ NCAA Last Chance, attempts were PRs with his winning mark a nine-inch improvement from his Seattle previous best...Saturday triple jumped 15.89m/52-1 3/4 for second place... 9-10 @ NCAA Indoor T&F ASU’s Chris Benard took second to Scott-Ellis in the long jump but won the Championships, Boise triple jump with an NCAA Automatice Qualifying mark of 16.43m/53-11 to win.     THE UNITED STATES OLYMPIC COMMITTEE ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT. MADISON HUGHES - MEN’S RUGBY The U.S. Rugby Sevens Men’s National Team had success during February as did Team Captain Madison Hughes. The Eagles traveled to the Wellington Sevens the first weekend in February and then went directly to the USA Sevens tournament as part of the HSBC Sevens World Series. Hughes scored a total of two tries and 11 conversions at the Wellington tournament. During the USA Sevens tournament, he scored three tries and six conversions and was named to the tournament’s Dream Team. This was Hughes first time being selected to a Dream Team. Hughes’ performance throughout the season has him leading the U.S team in tackles and points scored and he also is in the top ten worldwide for both categories at the halfway point of the 2014-2015 season. A native of London, England, Hughes was introduced to rugby at the age of seven. He excelled in the sport and eventually began playing for the Dartmouth rugby team upon starting college there.     2016 Eugene – July 1 to July 10 The hosting of the Trials in Eugene three times in a row, for the second time, was unprecedented, and while the Trials saw no World Records on this occasion, they did produce a terrific series of marks and dramas. With live action in field events by NBC best described as minimal, US television did a typically poor job in covering what still remains as the best domestic track and field meeting in the world.
