THE REDRUTH SCHOOL BEST STATE SECONDARY SCHOOL IN CORNWALL 2017 Issue 245 NEWSLETTER22nd June 2018 Real Schools Guide Murdoch Day Year 7 and 8 students celebrated 100 years of the Royal Air Force at Murdoch Day on Saturday 16th June. Students carried their artwork through the town as they marched with other local schools, to create a colourful and vibrant parade. Mr Martin, Headteacher, pictured above, said, “Once again our students have been eager to take part in Murdoch Day, and demonstrate their committment to their school and community.” Ross Williams, Chair of Governors at Redruth School, pictured right, also supported the event. Kurt Jackson Trophy Students were delighted to be presented with the Kurt Jackson Trophy this week after winning the Cornwall School’s Mining Games. The bronze sculpture is a representation of rows of terraced houses with the mining network beneath them. Students were thrilled to get their hands on the trophy, having really enjoyed taking part in the competition. Chairman’s Award Year 8 student, Izzy has been taking photos for the Camborne RFC Ladies section, going to home and away games and on tour. She was invited to the annual presentation evening recently, and was absolutely thrilled when the Chairman, Kevin Oates, presented her with the Chairman's Award for her dedication to the club for her photography and also helping to raise money at fundraising events throughout the season. Izzy was delighted to receive the trophy and meet Lagi Tuima and Jess Thomas who both play for England. Lagi also asked Izzy to take photos at her wedding! Equestrian Arwen Scoffin and her pony Emrys competed in the equestrian events at the Royal Cornwall Show. Coming 2nd in the heats for the inter hunt relay on Friday and going through to the final on Saturday, Arwen then went on to get 5th in the mini major showjumping and the team won the tack and turnout prize. Arwen won best junior rider for the inter hunt competition. Boxing Leon Mitchell has taken part in his first boxing match. Leon started boxing at the Age of 3, coached by his Grandfather, before joining Truro Boxing Club 6 months ago! Leon said, “I enjoyed the experience and can't wait to get in the ring again.” Summer School No further applications for Summer School can be accepted.
