Marion: Shea Colburn 4 years Bluffton: Hoagie Day Stephanie Monroe 18 years Christina McFarren 32 years May 5 is Hoagie Day, but this may mean nothing to anyone outside of New Haven: Philadelphia, where this term is used for a big sandwich loaded with Greg Bienz 29 years meat and cheese. Legend has it that the first version of this mega- Warsaw: sandwich appeared in Connecticut near a Navy submarine base. Italian Tammy Shepherd 12 years shopkeeper Benedetto Capaldo served up loaded sandwiches he Kokomo: dubbed “grinders.” Once the Navy yard began ordering 500 grinders Suellen McGlothlin 28 years each day, his creation was renamed the “submarine sandwich.” In New York City, the sandwich is called a “hero,” which many believe evolved out of a mispronunciation of the Greek “gyro” sandwich. Where did hoagie come from? Another mispronunciation. Shop owner Al De Palma created a massive sandwich fit for a “hog.” The Philadelphia accent warped his “hoggie” into the “hoagie.” NATIONAL WAITER & WAITRESS DAY National Waitstaff Day is observed each year on May 21. This day was created to show appreciation to and thank all waitstaff for the work they do in making our dining experiences enjoyable ones. Waiters and waitresses are a big determining factor on the difference between your dining experience being a good experience or a bad one. The food may be delicious but the attentiveness and attitude of the waiter/waitress can make or change the whole experience. It is our hope that at Richards our waiters/waitresses will greet you with a smile and go out of their way to make your visit the best experience possible! If you or someone you know cares about people and loves to serve others, maybe a part time job as a waiter or waitress at Richards would be a perfect fit. We’re always looking to hire friendly, kind, caring people who will service our guests with genuine hospitality. .

  • F1 Debrief – Insanity Personified in a Circle
F1 Debrief – Insanity personified in a circle Christine: This is F1 Debrief - Insanity personified in a circle. Coming up on this show, we bring out the big guns to talk all things Indy 500. Our last F1 Debrief show was all about Fernando Alonso’s Indy 500 adven- ture, which is now just days away - very exciting! We got quite a bit of feedback telling us we didn’t know what we were talking about, which is a fair assessment. So to rectify the situation, we’ve roped in Pat W of the I Watch Too Much Racing blog, and Lukeh, both of whom are IndyCar fans and experts and can tell us where we’re going wrong. So, hopefully from this chat we can all learn a bit more about what to expect this weekend, and I'll be taking copious notes in case this situation should ever arise again. Mr C: Pat, firstly, give us the rundown on what's going. What is Fernando Alonso doing? Pat: Well first of all, hello, it's good to be back. It's been a while. What's he doing? He says he's going for the triple crown which is the three biggest races in the world, arguably. Which is the Monaco Grand Prix, which he's won already, the Indy 500 and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Part of me wonders if that's what he's doing, whether that's his real motivation, or whether he just wanted to do something different because he's bored. But I think he does want to do Indy, genuinely.
