As a school, we have amazing support from all members of our community including our parents, carers, pupils and staff and we would hope that you would join us and continue to provide inspirational leadership, along with our Headteacher and senior leadership team on our new journey. You are welcome to visit the school and meet the enthusiastic children in advance of your application. The informal visit is not part of the selection process. Time has been set aside to allow interested candidates to visit the school on Friday 5th April at 4:00pm. If you do wish to visit, please advise Marie Coates, Business Manager by email at [email protected]. The closing date for applications is midnight on Friday 12th April 2019 Shortlisting will take place during the week of 22nd April 2019 Interviews will take place on Friday 10th May 2019 We hope you find this pack useful and informative and that it will encourage you to apply. Yours sincerely, Dr Jeanne Pratt, Chair of Governors Letter from the Headteacher Dear Candidate, Thank you for your interest in our Deputy Headteacher post, which I believe is a wonderful opportunity to join Carr Hill Community Primary School at a very exciting time. The position of Deputy Headteacher in our school is a vital one. It is a challenging but rewarding job. The successful applicant will be at the heart of the school’s leadership structure with specific leadership responsibilities but will also have significant involvement in every aspect of school life. The school is committed to safeguarding pupils and staff and the post will require an Enhanced DBS. Our current leadership team members have a variety of experiences, in many aspects of school life, and are heavily involved in the strategic planning of the school’s future and school improvement. Due to this wealth of experience within the leadership team, the lead responsibilities of the post will be agreed with the successful candidate, on appointment, taking into account their experience and expertise, as well as the needs of the school. The leadership of the school is a key priority in the continued development of the provision we offer. The Deputy Headteacher job description outlines the post and the personal specification summarises the key qualities required. I am really proud to say that Carr Hill is a wonderful place to work. This is as a result of our amazing pupils, the fantastic teaching staff and additional support staff who offer so much support and guidance to our community. The vast majority of our pupils come from the Deckham ward surrounding the school. The school is a popular choice for parents and carers in the local area, with approximately 326 pupils on roll, and over the last few years we have seen a significant change in the number of pupils who attend our school with English as an additional language. Carr Hill benefits from having excellent staff, both teaching and support. Without doubt, the staff and their determination and drive to improving standards for all our pupils and families is the school’s greatest asset and as a result the task of appointing staff to new roles is always given great importance. Our governors are really committed to the school and are very supportive of our staff as are our parents and carers. We have good relationships with other local primary schools and we are currently developing stronger partnerships with our secondary colleagues after the closure of our feeder secondary school, Thomas Hepburn Community Academy. Carr Hill Community Primary School was judged as a good school in February 2018 by Ofsted and our School Improvement Partner’s Annual Report to Governors has continued to grade the school as a good school. Our pupils make strong progress as they move through their primary education and the levels of attainment that our pupils achieve is in line with national averages by the end of Key Stage 2. In 2018: • 69% of our pupils achieved the expected standard in Reading, Writing and Mathematics. • 83% of our pupils achieved the expected standard in Reading. • 81% of our pupils achieved the expected standard in Writing. • 86% of our pupils attained the expected standard in Mathematics. The progress scores in Reading, Writing and Mathematics were significantly higher than the National Average. Whilst high standards of academic progress and achievement are vitally important for our pupils, we will not achieve these without recognising the need to develop the whole child. Our pupils’ all-round development in school is vitally important. We have to take time to get to know our pupils and families and support their lives to ensure that they have the chances and opportunities to flourish in Carr Hill and reach their true potential. We have an excellent climate for learning in school and our pupils are well behaved in and out of their lessons. This is a key ingredient to the school’s ongoing success and popularity amongst parents and carers. Detailed information about the school can be found on our website at carrhillprimary.org. Here you will find previous inspection reports, current school policies information on our aims and vision, the curriculum and extended learning activities that take place in and out of the classroom. I hope that once you have had the chance to read the information in this pack and find more about the school, you will be keen to apply. Should you be successful, I can assure you that you will be given wide-ranging responsibilities and the support to go alongside these responsibilities. Your completed application form and letter should be returned by email to Marie Coates ([email protected]) by midnight on the 12th April 2019. • Water Hardness
Water hardness Northumbrian Water is responsible for supplying a reliable source of safe, clean, drinking water. The majority of the company supply area is soft to slightly hard. Why some water is hard If your water comes from underground limestone or chalk rocks, or contains a proportion of groundwater, then the chances are that it is hard. The hardness is caused by the presence of minerals dissolved from the ground and rocks by the water. Northumbrian Water is compliant with the appropriate regulations and has no plans to introduce softening to hard water areas. Please find below a PDF document of the water hardness for the Northumbrian Water area, along with the measurement of hardness in degrees Clarke, for use with dishwashers and washing machines. You can check out how hard the water is in your area here by viewing the harness zones. What does this mean for my appliances? If your water is hard you will notice that your kettle and other water heating appliances become furred up with a white scale. You may also find this scale in your bath, sink and shower. It isn't harmful but can be a bit of a nuisance. Hard water can also affect appliances like washing machines, dishwashers and steam irons. If you are installing a new dishwasher, your plumber may ask you for the hardness of your water. If the manufacturer’s instructions show hardness using a different factor, you can convert the values as follows: x 2.5 = calcium carbonate (CaCO3) mg/l x 0.174 = Degrees Clarke Total hardness (as mg/l Ca) x 0.25 = French Degrees x 0.142 = German Degrees We do not change the natural hardness of the region’s water through treatment, it is left to the customer, either domestic or commercial, to decide whether artificial softening is the right choice for them.
