Neighbourhood Plan for the Orthodox Jewish Community of Gateshead 2005
A Neighbourhood Plan for the Orthodox Jewish Community of Gateshead 2005 CENTRAL GATESHEAD Bridges Deckham Lobley Hill & Bensham Saltwell A Neighbourhood Plan for Gateshead’s Jewish Community 2005 CONTENTS Page Purpose of the document 3 Introduction 4 The engagement event 4 After the event 5 Community safety 6 Housing 9 Street lighting 11 Highways and road safety 12 Environment 14 Leisure 16 Health 17 Next steps 19 Neighbourhood Plan actions list 20 2 A Neighbourhood Plan for Gateshead’s Jewish Community 2005 PURPOSE OF THE DOCUMENT This document is designed to do several things. It shows how Gateshead Council and its partners through the Gateshead Strategic Partnership are continually looking at finding new and better ways of engaging and working with the Borough’s communities. It demonstrates the benefits of tailoring an engagement process according to the specific needs of a community – in this case the cultural requirements of Gateshead’s Orthodox Jewish community. And it shows the benefits of communities and service providers sharing information together to help services become more tailored and focussed on local priorities. Neighbourhood Management Lots of people, organisations and agencies are responsible for making sure Gateshead residents get good quality services. Different communities have different priorities and by not going down the 'one size fits all' approach to services, and listening more to what local people want, the Council and its partners aim to provide services that will mirror local needs. This flexible and inclusive approach is being taken across Gateshead with the borough being split into five areas – called Neighbourhood Management Areas. (South, West, Inner West, Central and East). -
Water Hardness
Water hardness Northumbrian Water is responsible for supplying a reliable source of safe, clean, drinking water. The majority of the company supply area is soft to slightly hard. Why some water is hard If your water comes from underground limestone or chalk rocks, or contains a proportion of groundwater, then the chances are that it is hard. The hardness is caused by the presence of minerals dissolved from the ground and rocks by the water. Northumbrian Water is compliant with the appropriate regulations and has no plans to introduce softening to hard water areas. Please find below a PDF document of the water hardness for the Northumbrian Water area, along with the measurement of hardness in degrees Clarke, for use with dishwashers and washing machines. You can check out how hard the water is in your area here by viewing the harness zones. What does this mean for my appliances? If your water is hard you will notice that your kettle and other water heating appliances become furred up with a white scale. You may also find this scale in your bath, sink and shower. It isn't harmful but can be a bit of a nuisance. Hard water can also affect appliances like washing machines, dishwashers and steam irons. If you are installing a new dishwasher, your plumber may ask you for the hardness of your water. If the manufacturer’s instructions show hardness using a different factor, you can convert the values as follows: x 2.5 = calcium carbonate (CaCO3) mg/l x 0.174 = Degrees Clarke Total hardness (as mg/l Ca) x 0.25 = French Degrees x 0.142 = German Degrees We do not change the natural hardness of the region’s water through treatment, it is left to the customer, either domestic or commercial, to decide whether artificial softening is the right choice for them. -

Child Poverty in the North East Region
CHILD POVERTY IN THE NORTH EAST REGION January 2020 Jonathan Bradshaw ____________________________________________________________________________ Summary • The North East (NE) has the second highest low income and deprivation rate after inner London. • The NE child income poverty rate (before housing costs) at the 50% threshold was the same as the average for England but at the 60% threshold the NE had the equal second highest rate after the West Midlands and at the 70% threshold the NE had the equal highest child income poverty rate with the West Midlands. • After housing costs inner London has the highest child income poverty rate on all thresholds but the NE had the second highest child poverty rate at 60% and 70% thresholds. • The NE is the region with the highest proportion of households with children lacking on 8 out of the 20 deprivation items. • The material deprivation and low-income rate in the NE has risen and fallen since the mid-2000s. But the NE had the highest rate in the most recent period. • Child poverty both before and after housing costs fell in the NE after the mid-2000s but have been rising again since 2012/13-2014/15. In the period 2005/6-2007/8 the NE had the highest child poverty rate BHC and second equal highest AHC after London. By the most recent period the NE had the equal second highest child income poverty rate BHC and the second highest AHC at the 60% threshold. • Newcastle central constituency has the highest child poverty rates in the NE both before and after housing costs. -
