The manuscript of Forbes’s Life of Beattie volume I to about page 209 (1st edition), with most of the original letters included; the letters are usually complete and bear Sir William Forbes’s editorial marks. A file of additional Beattie letters: (a) 11 items 1771-5, published in the remaining portion of vol. 1 (of which the MS is missing); (b) various letters, 1762-74, 1789, 1796, n.d. which do not appear to have been included in the published Life; (c) a few fragments of notes and drafts by Forbes, which have not yet been adequately placed in the Life.
