[email protected]; [email protected] Abstract A lectotype is here designated for Mimosa pubescens Vent., the basionym of the Australian species Acacia pubescens (Vent.) R.Br. Introduction Acacia pubescens (Vent.) R.Br. has a restricted distribution in the greater Sydney region of New South Wales (see Tame 1992, Tindale and Kodela 2001, Kodela and Harden 2002, Kodela 2016, OEH 2016), and is listed as a Vulnerable species (OEH 2016). The basionym of Acacia pubescens, Mimosa pubescens, was originally published by Étienne Ventenat in the first volume of his work Jardin de la Malmaison (Ventenat 1803) that celebrated the collection of interesting plants from around the world in cultivation at the home of the Empress Josephine. Lack (2004: 35) notes that the number of Australian plants described in this work was “remarkably high” considering that the continent was, at that time, still largely unknown. The detailed descriptions were accompanied by fine illustrations by the famous botanical artist Redouté. At the time of compilation of the Acacia treatment in the Flora of Australia, no type specimen had been located (Tindale and Kodela 2001) and it was later suggested that the species could have been lectotypified on the plate in the protologue (Fig. -

For this reason the Invasive Alien Species Team of the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority has requested a risk assessment for Robinia pseudoacacia. The current risk assessment will focus on the situation in the Netherlands and discuss the following subjects: • Probability of entry • Probability of establishment in the Netherlands • Probability of spread • Identification of endangered areas based on the results of the three previous subjects • Impact of Robinia pseudoacacia in respect to ecological, economical and public health aspects • Management options to eradicate the species • Management options to control further spread and reduce impact. -

W232 Mimosa (Albizia julibrissin) Becky Koepke-Hill, Extension Assistant, Plant Sciences Greg Armel, Assistant Professor, Extension Weed Specialist for Invasive Weeds, Plant Sciences Origin: Mimosa is native to Asia, from Iran to Japan. It was introduced to the United States in 1745 as an ornamental plant. Description: Mimosa is a legume with double-compound leaves that give the 20- to 40-foot tree a fern-like appear- ance. Each leaf has 10 to 25 leaflets and 40 to 60 subleaflets per leaflet. In the summer, the tree pro- duces pink puff flowers. Fruits are produced in the fall and are contained in tan seedpods. The tree often has multiple stems and a broad, spreading canopy. Seed- lings can be confused with other double-compound legumes, but mimosa does not have thorns or prickles like black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia), and has a woody base, unlike hemp sesbania (Sesbania exaltata). Habitat: Mimosa is cold-hardy to USDA hardiness zone 6 and is not found in elevations above 3,000 feet. Mimosa will thrive in full sun in a wide range of soils in any dis- turbed habitat, such as stream banks, roadsides and old fields. Mimosa can live in partial shade, but is almost never found in full shade or dense forests. Mi- mosa often spreads by seeds from nearby ornamental plantings, or by fill dirt containing mimosa seeds. It is a growing problem in aquatic environments, where mimosa gets started on the disturbed stream banks, and its seeds are carried by the running water. Environmental Impact: Mimosa is challenging to remove once it is estab- lished. -

Falcataria moluccana Molucca albizia Fabaceae Forest Starr, Kim Starr, and Lloyd Loope United States Geological Survey--Biological Resources Division Haleakala Field Station, Maui, Hawai'i January, 2003 OVERVIEW Falcataria moluccana has been widely planted throughout the world for ornament and reforestation. It was first introduced to Hawai'i in 1917 by Joseph Rock (Little and Skolmen 1989). In Hawai'i, F. moluccana has been planted by the hundreds of thousands for ornament and reforestation. Trees are attractive and the wood is useful for a variety of things from furniture making to canoe building. However, trees are spreading from initial plantings to adjacent pastures, forests, and disturbed areas. Because of its widespread distribution throughout the state coupled with its popularity, perhaps the best approach currently would be to control the tree in certain sites where it is not wanted, such as natural areas, pastures, and farmland. Seeds tend to fall nearby and trees do not disperse over a long distance (miles), except when people move the tree to a new area. If this dispersal trend were to change, such as if a vector to spread the trees further arrived or if it was planted again on a grand scale to new areas, the tree may become a bigger problem. TAXONOMY Family: Fabaceae (pea family) (Wagner et al. 1999). Latin name: Falcataria moluccana (Miq.) Barneby and Grimes (Herbarium Pacificum Staff 1998). Synonyms: Paraserianthes falcataria (L.) I. Nielsen (Wagner et al. 1999), Albizia falcataria (L.) Fosberg, A. falcata (L.) Backer (Little and Skolmen 1989). Common names: Molucca albizia (Little and Skolmen 1989). Taxonomic notes: There seems to be a lot of name changing and rearranging that has occurred within this complex. -

Albizia zygia (DC.) Macbr. Fabaceae - Mimosoideae LOCAL NAMES Igbo (nyie avu); Swahili (nongo); Yoruba (ayin rela) BOTANIC DESCRIPTION Albizia zygia is a deciduous tree 9-30 m tall with a spreading crown and a graceful architectural form. Bole tall and clear, 240 cm in diameter. Bark grey and smooth. Young branchlets densely to very sparsely clothed with minute crisped puberulence, usually soon disappearing but sometimes persistent. Leaves pinnate, pinnae in 2-3 pairs and broadening towards the apex, obliquely rhombic or obovate with the distal pair largest, apex obtuse, 29- 72 by 16-43 mm, leaves are glabrous or nearly so. Flowers subsessile; pedicels and calyx puberulous, white or pink; staminal tube exserted for 10-18 mm beyond corolla. Fruit pod oblong, flat or somewhat transversely plicate, reddish-brown in colour, 10-18 cm by 2-4 cm glabrous or nearly so. The seeds of A. zygia are smaller (7.5-10 mm long and 6.5 to 8.5 mm wide) and flatter than either of the other Albizia, but have the characteristic round shape, with a slightly swollen center. The genus was named after Filippo del Albizzi, a Florentine nobleman who in 1749 introduced A. julibrissin into cultivation. BIOLOGY A hermaphroditic species flowering in January, February, March, August, and September. Fruits ripen in January, February, March, April, November, and December. Penelitian dilakukan dengan metode jelajah dan studi pustaka. Pengamatan lapangan dilakukan di kampus I dan II. Berdasarkan hasil pengamatan, didapatkan sebanyak 10 jenis anggota suku Fabaceae berperawakan pohon di lingkungan kampus. Kesepuluh jenis tersebut tercakup dalam 3 anak suku, 8 puak, dan 10 marga. Suku Fabaceae juga dipakai sebagai bahan ajar untuk mata kuliah Sistematika Tumbuhan. Small Acacia koa (Koa): This large hardwood tree is endemic to the Hawaiian Islands. The tree has exceeded 100 ft in height with basal diameter far beyond 50 inches in old growth stands. The wood is prized for furniture and canoe works. This legume has pods with black seeds for reproduction. The wood has similar properties to that of black walnut. The yellow flowers are borne in dense round heads about 2@ in diameter. Tree growth is best above 800 ft; seems to grow best in the ‘Koa belt’ which is situated at an elevation range between 3,500 - 6,000 ft. It is often found in areas where there is fog in the late afternoons. It should be planted in well- drained fertile soils. Grazing animals relish the Koa foliage, so young seedlings should be protected Acacia koaia (Koaia): Related to the Koa, Koaia is native to Hawaii. The leaves and flowers are much the same as Koa.
