Low Fell Ward Factsheet Low Fell Ward Factsheet Low Fell ward is located in the South of Gateshead. It sits alongside four other wards – Birtley, Chowdene, High Fell, and Lamesley. Low Fell is a largely residential area with a vibrant high street bissecting the area north to south. The high street acts as the main shopping centre for the ward. Residential areas include the Low Fell and Sheriff Hill areas. Although mainly residential, there is easy access to Saltwell Park in the neighouring Saltwell ward. Low Fell is home to the Joseph Swan Academy, named after the well known inventor of the light bulb. The majority of accommodation in Low Fell is traditional housing with the vast majority of properties being owner occupied and very few in the social housing sector.     Windy Nook and Whitehills Ward Factsheet Windy Nook and Whitehills ward is located in the East of Gateshead along with three other wards – Felling, Pelaw and Heworth, and Wardley and Leam Lane. The ward has significant amounts of open space, including Windy Nook Nature Park. There are some small shops located throughout the ward. The main transport links are through Fewster Square, and via Wrekenton shopping centre in the adjacent wards. The housing stock is a mixture of older brick built housing and modern properties.
