Thursday, March 13, 2008 -1550- JOURNAL OF THE SENATE THURSDAY, MARCH 13, 2008 The Senate met at 5:00 p.m. and was called to order by Lieutenant Governor William T. Bolling. John McE. Garrett, Chief Deputy Clerk of the Senate and Elder at St. James Presbyterian Church, King William, Virginia, offered the following prayer: O God, I ask that You guide and protect the Lieutenant Governor and these Senators in their service to the people of Virginia. Also God extend Your solace and comfort to the Finance Committee staff who have toiled many hours this week to serve well the conferees and this body. Amen. A quorum was present. After the roll call, Senators Cuccinelli, Marsh, Obenshain, Ticer, and Vogel notified the Clerk of their presence. MESSAGE FROM THE HOUSE IMMEDIATE CONSIDERATION A message was received from the House of Delegates by Delegate Griffith, who informed the Senate that the House had agreed to H.J.R. 616 (six hundred sixteen); in which it requested the concurrence of the Senate: H.J.R. 616. Applying to the Governor to call a special session and establishing a schedule for the conduct of business coming before such special session. H.J.R. 616 was taken up, read by title the first time, and referred to the Committee on Rules. Thursday, March 13, 2008 -1556- JOURNAL OF THE SENATE Senator Whipple moved that the Rules be suspended, the Committee on Rules be discharged from further consideration of H.J.R. 616 (six hundred sixteen), the readings of the title be waived, and the joint resolution be taken up for immediate consideration.
