Evolving . Uttarakhand has witnessed massive growth in capital investments due to a conducive industrial policy and industrialisation generous tax benefits. Therefore, Uttarakhand is one of the fastest growing states in India. The state’s GSDP facilitating growth increased at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.38 per cent between FY 12-17.

Hydropower generation . Uttarakhand is being developed as an ‘energy state’ to tap the hydropower electric potential of over 25,000 MW. As of January 2018, hydropower generation installed capacity in the state was recorded to be 1,815.69 potential MW.

Forest sector on . Forest area covers about 71.05 per cent of the state. The state’s forest revenues increased at a CAGR of 9.5 per cent between 2004-05 and 2013-14 and reached US$ 64.67 million in 2014-15. Gross Value Added growth path (GVA) by forestry & logging in the state reached US$ 475 million in 2016-17.

. During 2016-17, the tertiary sector’s share in gross state value GSVA composition by sector added was 38.41 per cent. Trade, hotels & restaurants are the largest sub-groups of the sector & registered strong growth in 100% comparison with the previous year. 33.88% CAGR 38.41% . The tertiaryµ sector witnessed the fastest growth of 11.06%, followed 90% by the secondary sector (8.15 per cent) and primary sector (4.78 per 80% 11.06% cent) between FY12-17.

. As of 2016-17, Uttarakhand had 339.80 km of rail routes. The state is focusing on increasing the share of railways in cargo and passenger transport. . Initiatives have been undertaken to start monorails at Dehradun, and , on the inter-city linkage routes. . The main railway stations in the state are Dehradun, Haridwar, Roorkee, , Kashipur, Udham Singh Nagar, , Ramnagar and Kathgodam . As per State Budget 2016-17, the state government proposed a one tine grant for development of and building corporation. . Rishikesh-Karanprayag rail project is being set up in the state at an estimated cost of US$ 2.29 billion. The work for the project started in December 2017. . In 2016, the Government of Uttarakhand inked a pact with the Rail Corporation for introducing metro rail in the state. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for preparing the detailed project report for the Haridwar-Rishikesh-Dehradun Metro rail project was signed between the Uttarakhand Urban Housing Development Authority (UUHDA) and DMRC, and an initial amount of US$ 3.1 million has also been paid.

As on December 2015, the services at Haridwar bus terminal were free of cost, however once commercialised, the services would be chargeable after the 1st 15 minutes.

Out of these, the central government approved only Dehradun to be developed as a smart city on the basis of urban population & the number of statutory towns. In June 2017, Dehradun was selected in the fourth list of smart cities.

. In December 2015, the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Chinses stakeholders from Tongji University, China. . The state’s forest revenues increased at a CAGR of 9.5 per cent between 2004-05 and 2014-15 to reach US$ 64.67 million in 2014-15. Gross Value Added (GVA) by forestry & logging in the state reached US$ 475 million in 2016-17. Forest products have excellent potential for development due to easy availability of raw materials in the state. The state has ample scope to develop industries based on forest- and agro- wastes such as lantana, pine-needles, plant and vegetative fibres. Uttarakhand accounts for 6 national parks and 7 wildlife sanctuaries. The area covered by national parks and sanctuaries is 4,915 square km and 2,690 square km respectively.

. In 2015, the recorded forest area of the state was 38,000 square km, which constitutes around 71 per cent of its geographical area. Uttarakhand is a storehouse for a rich variety of herbs, medicinal and aromatic plant species. This enables the state to offer immense opportunities for the development of export-oriented units based on such products. Forest Research Institute (FRI) is a premier institution under the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE), situated in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. The state is home to more than 175 species of rare medicinal, aromatic & herbal plants.

Department of Agriculture & Cooperation (DAC), Ministry of Agriculture is implementing National Bamboo Mission (NBM) scheme under Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) with the objective to utilise the potential of bamboo crop and increase the area of cultivation. In 2016-17, US$ 7.37 million was allocated for the implementation of the scheme in Uttarakhand, of which US$ 4.66 million was released.
