Regardless of the size of the project, all Al Masfoufa Engineering Laboratory projects are approached with Quality Control & Special the expertise, technology and equipment required to meet the client’s needs. Studies of Projects Al Masfoufa Engineering Laboratory provide a wide range of geotechnical services, and maintains modern drilling and soil-rock sampling equipment designed for site investigation purposes according to the latest technologies. Al Masfoufa Engineering Laboratory also has the latest field and laboratory testing equipment. Equipment for geotechnical studies as well as mixers and pumps for grouting purposes are also available at Al Masfoufa Engineering Laboratory. The scope of services of the site and geotechnical investigation department includes: ♦ Drilling, sampling, field and laboratory testing. ♦ Off-shore geotechnical investigation. ♦ Geotechnical studies for various types of structures such as buildings, roads, dams, and special structures. ♦ Surveys including geological and geotechnical mapping. ♦ Investigation, monitoring and analysis for slope stability. ♦ Installation and follow-up of measuring instruments. Off – Shore Al Masfoufa Engineering Laboratory is equipped to carry out off-shore site investigation, from small to large projects either shallow or relatively deep water projects. This is performed using jack-up pontoons and drilling rigs which is designed for this type of work. We have extensive experience in the use and application of geophysical investigation techniques for the investigation of subsurface Geotechnical environmental contamination and geohazards , as well as, in the application and interpretation of geophysical methods for geotechnical and construction projects Investigation The methods for Geophysical tests are the following: Topographical Survey 1. Electrical Resistivity Survey (Tomography) Geophysical Survey Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT) is an older geophysical technology that has been used extensively for the identification of near-surface geohazards in karst terrain, Material Testing with varying degrees of success. Resistivity surveys have several inherent limitations that render this technology suitable for preliminary surveys or as a screening tool, but Quality Control & Special Studies of better, more advanced techniques exist for more accurate determination of subsurface Projects voids. The advantage of a resistivity survey is that large amounts of information can be gathered relatively quickly. 2. Microgravity Survey Microgravity surveys are a newer method for a technique to detect sub-surface cavities or changes in sub-surface density using very high resolution gravity mapping. Microgravity is the primary tool used for the location caves and voids to depths of up to 50 m, and is the only surface geophysical method that will provide the location of karst (solution) features regardless of their shape. The main limitations of this technology are that the voids, if filled, must have a sufficient density contrast. The advantages of this technology is high accuracy and that the survey is a non-intrusive technology. 3. Ground Penetrating Radar Surface investigation methods may not detect karsts / solution features. However, based on past experience, such non-detection of cavities may be due to limitations of the technique, possible operator errors, and equipment error, amongst other factors. Therefore, the use of two different, yet complimentary, geophysical techniques since necessary as a means of cross-checking the results obtained from each method of investigation. GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) will identify shallow features (limited to depths of 6-7m), and is considered a good method for identifying near-surface features. Seismic Surface Refraction Services The seismic refraction method is a well-established geophysical technique for Geotechnical determining the depth to bedrock and the nature of overlying sediments based on Investigation measured velocities of seismic (p and s) waves in the subsurface formations. Three seismic spreads are normally adopted (with lengths in the range 100-200 m) at each Topographical Survey profile. A total of 15-20 spreads is anticipated. Each spread will constitute five shot- points: one at centre, two at the edges and two additional offshoots. This procedure will Geophysical Survey enable the comprehensive processing of the collected data. Material Testing Quality Control & 5.
