A new organ has recently been placed therein, at a cost of £200. The United Methodists have a place of worship here, and there is a National School for children of both sexes. :M:OSTON is a township of this parish, in Sandbach polling district, containing, by the census of 1861, 170, and in 1871, 217 inhabitants, and 678 acres; 2! miles north-west from Sandbach, on the Trent and Mersey Canal. Hanshall supposes it to have been in­ cluded with Warmingham in the Domesday Survey. 'l'ETTON (originally TEDTUNE) is a township in Warmingham parish, containing, by the census of 181ll, 170, and in 1871, 166 inhabitants, and V!J7 acres; in the polling district of Middlewich, Mid Cheshire ; 3! miles north-west from Sandbach. A residence adjoins, for the use of the Special High Constable, now Mr. Charles Laxton. THE THEATRE, a small structure, has been taken down about ten years. THE ExcisE OFFICE is at the Lamb Inn, Hospital street. This inn is much frequented by the farmers on the market-day. There is an excellent bowling-green connected with the Bowling-Green Tavern, situate in Monks lane. The Salt Water Baths are sitnate on Snow Hill; Mr. Thomas Townley, proprietor. THE UNION HousE, situated upon Beam Heath, is a. spacious brick building, erected for the accommodation of 350 inmates. The Union comprises uo less than eighty-six parishes and townships, for which ninety-three guardians are chosen, who meet at the Board-room for the transaction of business. No surprises if I tell you I’m praying for the next Bishop of Chester. I will use some of the prayers prepared for the diocese and found on the website and I hope to go to one of the prayer meetings arranged for us to pray together. I hope I will be praying on my own in my own words, sometimes not using words at all, experiencing what St Paul says in Romans 8.26: ‘Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words.’ Have a look at Psalm 34. I’ve been listening to a wonderful gospel setting of the Psalm from the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir which you can find on YouTube. Go back to the words of just this one psalm; notice the emotive language: ‘I will bless the Lord at all times;’ ‘O magnify the Lord with me, let us exalt his name together;’ ‘O taste and see that the Lord is good.’ This is prayer coming from the heart, being expressed in praise, and not forgetting to express prayer as a ‘cry’: ‘When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hear,’ prayer offered because the psalmist knows, ‘the Lord is near the broken-hearted, and saves the crushed in spirit’ (Ps 34.18).
