Milstead is a partner at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP in Los Angeles, where she has a broad commercial litigation practice. Ms. Milstead represents clients in both federal and state courts, with a particular emphasis on securities and merger litigation, director misconduct, civil RICO, and unfair business practices. Before joining the firm, Ms. Milstead served as a clerk to the Honorable Arthur Alarcón of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and as a clerk to the Honorable Florence-Marie Cooper of the United States District Court for the Central District of California. She devoted two years to teaching English to residents of Estonia as a Peace Corps volunteer before attending law school. In 2021 Ms. Milstead was named a Woman of Influence by the Los Angeles Business Journal. She has been a regular panelist for the annual Federal Court Boot Camp and Superior Court Boot Camp presented by Pincus Professional Education, served as co-chair of the Litigation Committee of the Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles (WLALA), and organized WLALA’s annual Litigators’ Forum. Ms. Milstead also served as a panelist at the third annual William French Smith Memorial Lecture at the Pepperdine Caruso School of Law, featuring retired Supreme Court justice Sandra Day O’Connor. Ms. Milstead has taught constitutional law at the Caruso School of Law and served on its board of advisors. She is currently a member of the Pepperdine University Board of Regents. Virginia Milstead received her bachelor’s degree from Abilene Christian University in 1999 and her law degree from the Pepperdine University Caruso School of Law in 2004, where she was literary and citation editor for the Pepperdine Law Review. 4 THE HONORABLE CONSUELO MARIA CALLAHAN Judge Consuelo Maria Callahan was nominated by President George W. Bush on February 12, 2003, to serve as a circuit judge for the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. In May of 2003 she was confirmed unanimously by the United States Senate. She was the first judge in San Joaquin County history to be appointed to the federal court. Prior to being appointed to the federal bench, Judge Callahan was a state court judge, serving as a justice for the Third District Court of Appeal for the state of California, a superior court judge for San Joaquin County, and a commissioner of the Stockton Municipal Court. She was the first woman and first Latina to be appointed to the San Joaquin County Superior Court, as well as the first judge from San Joaquin County to be elevated to the Court of Appeal in 73 years. Before that, Judge Callahan was a Stockton deputy city attorney and a San Joaquin County deputy district attorney. The recipient of numerous awards, Judge Callahan served on the board of regents of the University of the Pacific for nine years. She currently serves on the board of trustees for both Western University of Health Sciences and the American Inns of Court. Judge Callahan is also a frequent instructor to judges and lawyers both domestically and internationally and is a coauthor of the Rutter Group California Practice Guide: Employment Litigation.
