The Colombian Volleyball Federation (FCV), led by its Technical Committee, will embark on a new scheme on January 5, 2011 to try to find the star players of the future.

Following on from the 16th Children’s National Volleyball Champion- ship, the FCV Technical Committee will select 25 children per team to take part in special events set to take place in Clai for the boys and Cartagena for the girls, beginning at the end of January.

There will be a total of six camps through- out the year, in which 25 boys and 25 girls will look to earn a place in the final squads for the South American Youth Championships.

Bulgaria star named Man of the Year in Sofia

Volleyball star Matey Kazi- yski was named Bulgaria’s 2010 Man of the Year on December 2 in an annual poll conducted by Bulgar- ian radio station Darik Ra- dio. Kaziyski was one of three nominees for the prestigious award along with Vice Premier and Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov and the Minister of Regional Development, Rosen Plevneliev. Kaziyski collected 10,492 of the 16,636 votes cast online and received a hand- crafted sword at the awards ceremony at Sofia’s Mladezhki Theatre. He was presented with the award by Diego Mosna, the president of his Italian club, Trentino BetClic, who travelled to the Bulgarian capital to attend the event. “It is a great honour for me to receive this award,” Kaziyski said. “I am convinced that the two other nominees deserved it even more than I did. Costa Rica claimed their 10th consecutive title at the XVI Central Ameri- can Women’s Cup by defeating hosts Panama 3-0 (25-11, 25-21, 25-10) in the final of the tournament on De- cember 4 in Panama City. The Costa Ricans did not drop a single set on their way to a 13th triumph in total at the zonal competition. Verania Willis, named the Most Valuable Player, led the way for Costa Rica with 18 points, all via spikes. Paola Ramirez added 16, including three blocks and three aces, while Karen Cope charted 11.
