After the Committee’s Draft Statement on Women’s Work in the Sex Industry was used to inform YWCA Canada’s development of a policy on these issues, a policy statement was intro- duced at AMM and brought forward at OMM for a motion to adopt as YWCA Canada’s official policy. In January of 2015, the Social Action Committee recommended this YWCA Canada Policy on Prostitution, Sex Work and Women’s Safety for adop- tion by YWCA Sudbury. This strong policy statement was adopted by the Board and will guide the agency’s work in this area. Following the success of the Town Hall event held before the provincial election in June 2014, the Social Action Committee has begun planning a similar event to be held prior to the upcoming federal election in the fall of 2015. This event will include a diverse group of panelists who will raise awareness on federal issues of concern for women and their families. The Social Action Committee has also done work to develop content and strategy for raising awareness of these issues through YWCA Sudbury’s social media.
