In a season of extreme economic travail, we are particularly gratified by the growing Hearts of Palm, Marinated Artichoke Hearts, Enoki Mushrooms, recognition here and throughout our country of the imperative to support medical research Red and Yellow Peppers, and Teardrop Tomatoes concerning kidney disease. Served with Lemon Herb Vinaigrette To live without dialysis every one of us needs at least one functioning kidney to remove toxins, regulate the flow of blood throughout the body, and to properly balance our blood chemistries. While the kidneys are critical and incredibly complex organs, the diseases that affect them have never risen to become top priorities of research GRILLED FILET OF ATLANTIC SALMON funding despite the huge number of people who are suffering. In the western United States we do not have a comprehensive center that specializes in research to understand why kidneys fail and to design prevention and Niçoise Vegetable Ragout and White Wine Tomato Caper Herb Sauce treatment strategies. Our goal is to create a first class renal research center where the top researchers will gather With and apply the latest technologies to unlock the causes of, create new treatments for, and hopefully find a way Asparagus, Grilled Tomato, Baby Carrots and Potatoes Dauphinoise to eradicate the scourge of kidney disease. By achieving that goal we can obviate the extraordinary resources now required to support the hundreds of thousands of people in the United States who require dialysis and kidney transplants. VEGETARIAN OPTION My family and I can tell you personally how much a kidney transplant has meant to us, and every day I treasure Penne Pasta Primavera the gift bestowed upon me by a courageous donor family who consented to have the organs of their beloved donated so that others might benefit despite their family’s tragic loss. I’ve had a new kidney for twenty months. Like yours, it works silently every day to keep my body healthy. Medical research has made that possible. I follow a strict regime of medicine and blood tests, but otherwise my life, after ten years of illness, is normal. But the TRIPLE CHOCOLATE BAVARIAN TOWER doctors still don’t understand the disease processes that caused my kidneys to fail, whether it will happen again, & or how to prevent others from experiencing the same medical difficulties. TRIO OF SORBETS with Raspberry Sauce But, we have great hope for the future. Tonight we honor three people, Shaul Massry, Tom Mone and Kent Thiry, who are responsible for spectacular advances in this field. In this room and around the world, there are brilliant doctors and people committed to research who are anxious to solve these medical mysteries, and your contributions will help advance their efforts. A big thank you to all of you and to our dinner chairs, co-chairs, and members of our Boards for your generosity and in many cases, tireless efforts in creating tonight’s event. We wish you a great evening. • Deana Carter Danny Myrick
Deana Carter DEANA CARTER, the daughter of famed studio guitarist and producer Fred Carter, Jr., grew up surrounded by musical greats, including Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan, Waylon Jennings, and Simon & Garfunkel. She developed her songwriting skills at writer’s nights throughout Nashville, but her real break came when one of her demo tapes fell into the hands of Willie Nelson, who remembered Deana as a child. Impressed with how she’d grown as a songwriter, Nelson asked Deana to perform along with John Mellencamp, Kris Kristofferson, and Neil Young, as the only female solo artist to appear at Farm Aid VII in 1994. Her 1996 debut album Did I Shave My Legs for This? quickly climbed to the top of both the country and pop charts, quickly achieving multi-platinum status. "Strawberry Wine,” the first single from the album, was awarded CMA's 1997 Single of the Year. Seven albums and a decade later, Deana is still writing and producing for both the pop/rock and country markets when not on the road touring. Her superstar success continues to be evident. Her chart topper “You & Tequila,” co-written with Matraca Berg and recorded by Kenny Chesney, was nominated in 2011 as CMA’s “Song of the Year” and received two Grammy nods. Carter also recently co-wrote and produced a new album for recording artist Audra Mae while putting the finishing touches on her own Southern Way of Life that hit the shelves last December. Danny Myrick DANNY MYRICK is an award winning songwriter and musician based here in Nashville.

  • Strawberry Wine' and a Hot July Moon
'Strawberry Wine' and a hot July moon Posted by Dick Myers On 08/01/2015 Like strawberry wine and seventeen The hot July moon saw everything My first taste of love, oh, bittersweet The green on the vine like strawberry wine Lyrics by Matraca Maria Berg & Gary Harrison Chesapeake Beach, MD – Deana Carter brought her classic song of summer love, Strawberry Wine, to the Chesapeake Beach Resort and Spa on July 30. A storm had blown through hours before, but the hot July sun had returned and a near-full hot July moon was ready to make its appearance. Carter saved her smash 1997 single for the last song of her more than an hour set on the beachside concert stage. The record garnered Record of the Year and Album of the Year from both the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music. Saving it for last gave the audience a chance to hear some of Carter’s most recent album “Southern Way of Life” in addition to some of her other hits. But the song is obviously still a fan favorite and many joined her in front of the stage to dance to it. Carter is a Nashville girl, the daughter of County Music Hall of Fame singer/songwriter/musician Fred Carter, Jr. Carter was a session musician on many famous country and rock hits by artists such as Roy Orbison, Conway Twitty, Simon and Garfunkel and Bob Dylan. He was an original member of the band that would become “The Band.” So Carter grew up with all of the stars going through the Carter home.
