In the half-hour show, international news normally takes 5 to 10 minutes, most of which report on negative news around the world, such as riots in the Middle East or the economic crisis in Europe.

Pamela Jennings, 1996 To my Parents ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS First and foremost I want to acknowledge the help, dedication and commitment of my advisor Janet Murray. Her relentless criticism and simultaneous encouragement sharpened both my wit and the focus of my arguments. Jay Bolter gave me the courage to start this project and provided not only lucid intellectual advice, but also a shoulder to lean on and a voice of sanity in the darkest hours of this thesis. Celia Pearce gave me a new appreciation of games and encouraged me to include installation pieces I would have otherwise overlooked. Kenneth Knoespel always took my mind to exciting and unforeseen places and made me think outside the box.

  • Youtube Strategies 2015 How to Make and Market Youtube Videos
Disclaimer I create commercial content that pays bills. I am, what many would call, an information marketer. Often, I am the provider (and/or business owner) of the products and/or services that I recommend. Being in this business provides me with such a wonderful opportunity; it’s part of how I pay those bills. Occasionally, I am compensated by the products and services I recommend. It is sometimes direct; it is sometimes indirect; but it is there. If this offends you, no problem; this isn’t content for you. Return this book. We can still be friends. At all times, I only recommend products I use – or would tell my Mom to use. You have my promise there. About The Author Paul Colligan helps others leverage technology to expand their reach (and revenue) with reduced stress and no drama. He does this with a lifestyle and business designed to answer the challenges and opportunities of today’s ever- changing information economy. He lives in Portland, Oregon with his wife and daughters and enjoys theater, music, great food and travel. Paul believes in building systems and products that work for the user – not vice versa. • 19. CD-ROM Games
Forthcoming in WOLF, Mark J.P. (ed.). Video Game History: From Bouncing Blocks to a Global Industry, Greenwood Press, Westport, Conn. 19. CD-ROM Games Carl Therrien While it became a standard relatively recently, disc-based storage goes a long way back in the history of video game distribution. The term encompasses a wide range of technologies, from magnetic floppy discs, analog laserdiscs, to a variety of digital optical media. Of the latter, the CD-ROM enjoyed the strongest following and the longest lifespan; as of 2006, a significant number of PC games are still burned on CDs. When it became the most common video game distribution format in the mid nineteen-nineties, the compact disc was already a standard in the music industry. In contrast to the magnetic tapes used for the distribution of albums and movies, optical discs allowed relatively fast, random, non-linear access to the content. But these features were already common in the realm of cartridge-based video game systems; the ROMs in Atari 2600 or Super Nintendo game cartridges were directly connected to the system’s working memory and could be read instantly. The CD drive optical head couldn’t compete; as a matter of fact, optical discs introduced the infamous “loading” screen to the console gamer. Video games benefited first and foremost from the storage capabilities of the CD-ROM. While the CD format shares its core technical principle with the more recent DVD standard (found in the Xbox and PlayStation 2) and other dedicated formats (such as the Dreamcast’s GD-ROM and the Gamecube optical disc), this chapter will focus solely on the integration of CD-ROM technology and its consequences on game design and development.
