Le texte : There comes a time when we hear a certain call Le temps est venu, When the world must come together as one Quand nous entendons un certain appel, There are people dying Quand le monde ne doit plus faire qu'un, And it's time to lend a hand to life Il y a des gens qui meurent ! The greatest gift of all. Il est temps de tendre la main en donnant We can't go on pretending day by day le plus beau des cadeaux That someone, somewhere will soon make a change Nous ne pouvons continuer à prétendre jour après jour We are all part of God's great big family Que quelqu'un, quelque part, bientôt changera les choses. And the truth, you know, love is all we need Nous faisons tous partie de la grande famille de Dieu, et savons tous que la chose la plus importante est d'être aimer. We are the world, we are the children We are the ones who make a brighter day Nous sommes le monde, nous sommes les enfants So let's start giving Nous sommes ceux qui rendent les jours meilleurs There's a choice were making Alors commençons à donner... Were saving our own lives Il y a un choix a faire qui nous sauve. It's true we'll make a better day toi et moi, je te l'assure, Nous améliorerons les choses. Just you and me Envoie leur ton cœur Send them your heart Pour qu'ils sachent que quelqu'un se soucie d'eux So they'll know that someone cares Et leurs vies seront plus forts et plus libres And their lives will be stronger and free Comme Dieu nous l'a montré en changeant la pierre en As God has shown us by turning stones to bread pain And so we all must lend a helping hand Nous devons tous les aider. When youre down and out, there seems no hope at all Quand tu es complètement perdu et désespéré, But if you just believe there's no way we can fall Que tu as l'impression de ne plus pouvoir t'en sortir. Well, well, well, well let us realize that a change can only come Si tu as la foi nous ne peux pas trébucher When we stand together as one Allons, il faut croire Qu'un changement est possible si nous sommes tous unis Chanson de Michael Jackson arrangée pour deux voix égales et piano We are the world (1985) MICHAEL JACKSON & LIONEL RICHIE Arrangement : Roger Emerson Slowly, œwith reverence q = 76 b 4 œ œ 3œ œ œ œ œ œ œ ˙ Handbells &b b4 œ œ œ œ ˙ œ œ œ Ó œ Ó œ Œ œ œ œ œ ˙ ˙ ou Chimes œ œ œ ° b 4 Sopranos &b b4 ∑ ∑ ∑ ∑ ∑ ∑ bb 4 ∑ ∑ ∑ ∑ ∑ ∑ Altos ¢& b4 œœœ œœœ œ œ Œ œ œ bb 4 œœ œ œ œœœœ ™ œœœ œ œ Ó œ œ œ œ œ œ œ & b4 œ œ w œ™ œ œ w œ œ ˙ ˙ Æœ w œ™ œ œ w ˙ ˙ Piano mp legato 3 J ? b 4 Œ ‰ j w w { b b4 œ ˙ w w w w œ >œ ˙ w ˙ œ 7 b w &b b w ∑ ∑ ∑ mp ° b j &b b œ œ œœ ˙ œ œ œ œ œœ œœ œ œ ‰ œ œ œ™ œ œ™ œ œ œ œ ˙ Œ œ œ There comes a time when we heeda cer - tain call, when theworldmust come to-geth-er as one. Final Research Project Presentation By: Surina Dhanota Arth 273 The 1980s and Music Music in the 1980s was something that was so iconic and this generation of it will be remembered for decades to come. The music that was created during this time period was so different than other generations and had its own uniqueness to it as well. The most well known musicians during this time produced new sounds and styles that had changed the music industry forever. To this day those famous artists and their songs are played and still loved by so many people. The 1980s time period paved the way for new ideas and challenges that many people took on and become successful at. Research Question For my question I wanted to look at en event that many people remember and see what kind of impact the event had made. For my question I decided to research What historical music event happened that impacted the 1980s? Event The event I chose was the We Are The World which was released on March 7th, 1985 and had involved the most famous musicians of the 1980s at the time. It was also a song for charity. Why was the event created? This purpose of this event and song as well as why it was created to help raise money and relief for Africa. The reason why they wanted to raise money for africa is because of famine relief. Impact it had? The impact of this event was huge. When looking back at the history of the 1980s this is for sure an event that people will remember and look back at for ages.

  • Feminism: When the Label 'White' Gets Attached in Pop Music Industry
Feminism: When the Label ‘White’ Gets Attached in Pop Music Industry Audrey Lee and Brian Oh Published 5 Oct 2020 Abstract This paper describes a qualitative study that investigates the pop music genre starting from the 2000s, relating it to feminism. The investigation focuses on understanding when female artists are considered feminist, and when the label ‘white feminist’ is applied to specific female artists. Based on media press and public perspective, the research hopes to find key characteristics that separates the moment when the label feminism and white feminism are applied, especially in relation to other attributes such as gender orientation, sexual orientation, and race. The purpose of the research is to provide more insight into understanding feminism in the context of today, and to how navigate complex spaces such as media image and personal identity, labels that come with the public status of their profession. 1 Introduction MTV, The GRAMMYs, Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, KIIS FM - Popular music aka ‘Pop Music’ is an industry that is in a constant flurry of activity and publicity, through television, radio, news, and videos. When referencing popular music, the paper is defining Pop Music as any popular music produced after the 2000s. With such a public identity, artists in the pop music industry are expected to navigate the complexities of the business that exist, including image, policies, and activism. In the current generation where technology and communication can occur in an instant, female artists are expected to adjust to a multi-faceted industry that, at many times, can seem paradoxical in nature. Many female artists are forced to find the right balance between outgoing and timid when portraying their public personas.

  • Body As Evidence
Chapter 1 Pop Goes Democracy Mediating Race, Gender, and Nation on American Idol Parallels between presidential elections and the hit TV series are not hard to make. Indeed, they had become punch lines in comedyAmerican routines: Idol from Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert complaining that it took too long to determine the next American Idol (in a gag that had audiences assuming he was referring to the next U.S. president) to ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel quipping that, after watching the vice presidential debate during the U.S. presidential campaign in 2008, he “voted four times for Sarah Palin and six times for David Archuleta,” in reference to the popular Republican vice presidential candidate and frontrunner contestant that year. Interestingly, movie critic RogerAmerican Ebert Idol’s mounted criticism against Palin for being “the American Idol candidate,” in which he argued the following: I think I might be able to explain some of Sarah Palin’s appeal. She’s the “American Idol” candidate. Consider. What defines an “American Idol” finalist? They’re good‑looking, work well on television, have a sunny personality, are fierce competitors, and so talented, why, they’re darned near the real thing. There’s a reason “American Idol” gets such high ratings. People identify with the contestants. They think, Hey, that could be me up there on that show! . My problem is, I don’t want to be up there. I don’t want a vice president who is darned near good enough. I want a vice president who is better, wiser, well‑traveled, has met world leaders, who three months ago had an opinion on Iraq.

From our case studies, we found that development agencies and other stakeholders employ songs for social mobilisation, information diffusion, partnerships with high profile global, regional and national artists and fundraising for humanitarian response. The lyrics from the songs range from the entertaining to the satirical and from defiance of oppression to hope for the future. The study shows that charity songs are also used to frame and reframe Africa’s development issues by different artists. Finally, we conclude that music is strong in disseminating information in social development but ineffective in influencing collective behaviour on structural inequalities and the root causes of underdevelopment.
