Isn't That Kangeroo Cute?: Early NFL Week 1 Fantasy I mean, I think LeBron is an amazing basketball player, and everyone Football Pickups to sign knows that he is likely among the top 5 of our time (sorry folks, I’m a Bulls with Eagles fan, so MJ still has him beat). But everyone also knows that LeBron is Offseason among the floppiest of them all. Assuming floppiest is a word. Anyway, Tony Romo zings Patriots at Country... for those who don’t know what flopping is, it’s basically overacting to get a foul called. Conservative NFL January 2

#FF @BaxFootballGuru FXP LOGO PROVIDED BY: 53 people like Conservative NFL. But the point is, sometimes there can be bad foul called in professional sports because someone is acting, and sometimes it’s just a blown call by the officials. It’s true that the refs in the Seahawks v. 49ers game blew

two big calls (the missed running into the punter resulting in a Seattle ), the truth of the matter is that Kaepernicks two mind . numbingly bad probably really sealed their fate. But instead

of conducting a postmortem on that game, we should look forward at the Facebook social plugin real big game, Super Bowl XLVIII on February 2, 2014 in MetLife Stadium. The weather will be cold, but I expect both teams to be red hot.

.

ARE YOU A PASSIONATE FAN AND Strengths AN EXPERT ON YOUR SPORT/TEAM - SEND US AN EMAIL TO JOIN THE FXP STAFF Well, duh. The strength of the Denver Broncos is most definitely its pass offense. had an NFL record year with 5477 yards Name passing on a 68.3% completion percentage with 55 to only 10 interceptions. Manning averaged 342 passing yards and almost 3.5 Email * touchdowns per game during the regular season, and has been just as impressive in the post season. Honestly, with weapons like , Eric Decker, Julius Thomas and Wes Welker, it’s shocking Message * anytime the Broncos have to , which, by the way, isn’t very often. The Broncos have the 6th lowest number of punts in the NFL, and we saw that continue against New England in the AFC Championship Game, where the Broncos punted only once. But this isn’t purely due to the efficient pass game in Denver. Much of Denver’s current success has been partially due to control via the ground game. Denver quietly had Send the 15th best run offense during the regular season averaging 117.1 yards and 1 touchdown per game. This potent combination of elite passing and competent rushing led to Denver having the most first downs in the NFL, a whopping 57 more first downs than the second best . They also had the second highest third down conversion percentage (46.3%) and are first in fourth down conversions (88.9%). This is a potent offense, folks. So how do you beat the Broncos?

Weaknesses

The Broncos pass defense is almost the polar opposite of its pass offense coming in as the 6th worse pass defense in the NFL during the regular season allowing an average of 254 passing yards and almost 2 passing touchdowns per game. It’s a good thing Denver offense can move the ball, otherwise these stats would be a real liability. It’s also a good thing that Denver quietly has the 7th best run defense with respect to rushing yards, allowing only 101.6 rushing yards per game. Unfortunately, that’s coupled with allowing almost one rushing touchdown per game, but that’s not terrible being close to the average for NFL defenses this year. Denver also is tied for the 4th most penalties per game with 7.2. Not a huge problem, but it’s something to keep an eye on.

Seattle Seahawks

See Strengths and Weaknesses from my last article here: http://www.footballextrapoints.com/2014/01/newyearseveisfor suckerspreviewof.html.

Comparison

The Seahawks will win if their league leading defense can slow Peyton Manning down. If they hold Manning’s offense to a few field goals and at least 3 punts, the Seahawks have a good shot at winning the game. All the Seahawks offense needs to do is maintain long drives with a heavy dose of Lynch and tire out the Broncos defense. The Broncos haven’t been beat often this year, but when they have, it’s been a high scoring game. Unfortunately, the Seahawks don’t have a high powered offense that can put up a lot of points, so if the defense can’t contain Peyton, they won’t be able to keep up. That is, Seattle won’t be able to keep up unless they let Wilson throw more. As we saw in the long 4th down touchdown to Kearse against the 49ers, Wilson has a strong arm and he can go downfield. They got lucky with the 49ers since Kaepernick bailed them out with two interceptions, but that won’t happen with Manning at the helm. So the Seahawks won’t be able to rely on their defense alone. The Broncos subpar secondary (particularly without Chris Harris) is an excellent opportunity for Wilson, even if isn’t cleared for the big game. And, as a bonus, we all know that Beastmode will be much more effective if the Broncos can’t stack the box.

The Broncos will win if they control they keep scoring. It’s just that simple. If Manning is able to even come near his season averages, the Broncos will have much more fire power than Seattle can match. Manning will have to be patient though. The Seahawks lead the league in interceptions, and that’s no chance stat. They’re terrific at identifying and undercutting routes, and it only takes one pick six to swing momentum. But honestly, the Broncos averaged 37.9 points per game during the regular season. That’s almost 10 more than the second place Patriots and Bears. And not surprisingly, they beat the Patriots by exactly that differential, 10. It’ll be uphill sledding for Seattle once Denver’s offense gets rolling.

Prediction

The Denver Broncos will beat the Seattle Seahawks 24 to 20. Anything can happen, but, for what it’s worth, my previous two predictions for Seattle were correct with scores almost exactly dead on. In addition, I predict that LeBron James will attend the game and in the process of getting a hot dog, flop after running into Sarah Jessica Parker, who was distracted while trying to find Josh Duhamel after a date went bad on New Year’s Eve, resulting in her dropping a vile of a virus that she was transporting for the CDC for some cash to buy new shoes. End result, Lynch gets infected, Skittles become ineffective as power pellets and the Broncos win. And there you go, I just tied together my last three articles. Booyah. And yes, by using the word “Booyah”, I’ve just confirmed I grew up in the 90’s. And by the way, my actual name is Cornholio and I’m looking for T.P. for my bunghole.

UPDATE So we're just two days from the Super Bowl and being here in NYC, I can say that excitement is building. Though the funny thing is that if you were just walking around midtown (near 30 Rock), it basically looks like any other busy day. Heck, I'm probably in half a dozen family pictures just from accidentally walking through them on my way to work this morning. But I digress.

The important thing is we have some clarity on who's playing this weekend. Percy Harvin is cleared and is said to play "a part" in the Super Bowl game plan. What that "part" is is anyone's guess, but I suspect some special teams plays, a handful of 3 and 4 wide sets, and maybe 1 or 2 reverses or designed WR runs. More importantly, we know that is cleared to play. I wouldn't be surprised if sees a slightly expanded roll this weekend, so as to keep Moreno safe for pass protection, but we saw what New Orleans was able to do on the ground, and having the Moreno/Ball tandem at full strength should help keep the Seattle D guessing. Wes Welker was never in danger of missing the game, but he's also a full go and someone who I think will be the key to a Broncos victory. Frankly, Decker will see a lot of Sherman and D. Thomas will see a lot of Maxwell, leaving Welker and J. Thomas as having the better matchups. If Peyton can exploit them, it'll be a long day for the Seattle D. On the flip side, Harvin helps Wilson take advantage of the Broncos league worst secondary, so Harvin will likely be the X Factor on the Seahawks side.

Either way, should be a great game. Everyone stay warm and enjoy the showdown!! Reply
