General Laborer Part-time Temporary The Position Under supervision of assigned supervisory staff, performs basic maintenance and service tasks and related duties of assigned department or division. This position will be assigned to the Public Works/Operations Recycled Water Fill Station at the Public Works Corporation Yard and will be assisting members of the public with filling recycled water containers. Hours This position is a part time, limited service, non-benefited position and may work no more than 1,000 hours per fiscal year. Must be willing to work weekends and evening hours. Standards Must be 18 years of age or older, and able to work within both environmental and office conditions associated with the work. Requires equivalent to the completion of twelfth grade and one-year of customer service experience. Uses shovels, rakes, hoes, small power tools and equipment, pneumatic tools and personal protective equipment. Provides exceptional customer service and demonstrates ability to professionally enforce rules and regulations of assigned program with the public. Accepts and reviews documentation applicable to assignment. Conducts on-site training applicable to area of assignment. Verifies eligibility of registered users of various City programs. Follows safety rules and utilizes personal protective equipment. Performs general labor duties of assigned department or division. May be required to operate vehicles, including pick-up trucks. Working knowledge of: Purpose and use of common hand and portable power tools, including, but not limited to: shovels, rakes, hoes, small power tools and equipment, pneumatic tools, vehicles, including pick-up trucks, and personal protective equipment used in grounds or public works maintenance activities. Traffic control safety. Exceptional customer service skills. Ability to: Communicate effectively and tactfully with internal and external customers. Learn the procedure and operation details of the program(s), department or division to which assigned, under minimal supervision. Understand and follow both oral and written instructions and procedures. Perform routine mathematical calculations accurately. Establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties. License or Certificate Possession of, or ability to obtain and retain, an appropriate driver’s license may be required for some positions. Environment Work is performed in both outdoor and office environments with extensive public contact and constant interruptions. Physical Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to lift, carry, push and/or pull moderate amounts of weight; work in an office or outdoor setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to operate small tools, outdoor equipment and office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to effectively communicate orally and in writing. Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction. Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
