Alchemy Records Alchemy FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Records September 8, 2014 Brian Rocha [email protected] Ryan Feldman [email protected] Burnt Belief Returns with commanding new release, Etymology Newest collaboration between U.K. bassist Colin Edwin (Porcupine Tree) and U.S. guitarist Jon Durant out October 21st Cohasset, MA—The duo of bassist Colin Edwin and guitarist Jon Durant have once again teamed up under their Burnt Belief moniker to release a new album of progressive ethno-ambient fusion instru - mentals titled Etymology. The pair first teamed up for Durant’s 2011 album Dance of the Shadow Planets, a wholly live in the studio documentation of their nascent musical chemistry centered around Durant’s atmospheric compositions and featuring also the talents of violinist Caryn Lin and multi-per - cussionist Jerry Leake. The follow-up to Shadow Planets, 2012’s eponymously titled Burnt Belief was distance recorded, but a fully collaborative compositional affair with Edwin taking equal responsibility for the writing process. Having confidently cemented their working methods and musical connection with the well received Burnt Belief, the duo undertook some live dates in the UK and Ukraine with Kiev based female vocal duo Astarta (as Astarta/Edwin), a project Colin has been working on for some time, but presently on ice due to the current instability in the country. Energized by working together in a live environment again, in late 2013, the duo reconvened to create the present album, Etymology. Whilst still retaining the strong sonic identity laid down on Burnt Belief, Etymology represents a considerable expansion and natural evolution of their sound, not least because of the additional input of three mar - velous drummers (Vinny Sabatino, Dean McCormick and Jose Duque) to complement and reinforce the programmed electronic rhythms. Etymology is further enhanced by sensitive, deep electric violin performances from highly regarded classical musician Steve Bingham, also known for his evocative work with UK art-rock band No-Man. The album’s title is a metaphor for the pair’s working methodology, in which compositions evolve from an initial germ of an idea into a fully realized piece. The resulting work is often very different from it’s original concept yet still maintains the initial elements at it’s core. Assimilating diverse elements ranging from polyrhythms (Chimera), deep ECM styled atmos - pherics (Hover) and even angular nu-jazz abstraction (Squall), the result is an immersive, multi- layered, and engrossing documentation of a remarkably sympathetic musical connection. Etymology will be released on October 21, 2014 and will be available at Burning Shed, Amazon, CD Baby, iTunes, jondurant.com and other digital outlets. Burnt Belief are looking forward to live dates in late 2014 and 2015. About Colin Edwin Colin Edwin is best known as a founder member and bass player of the internationally success - ful progressive rock band Porcupine Tree. In addition, he has a long running collaboration as Ex-Wise Heads with avant multi-instrumentalist Geoff Leigh (Henry Cow/Hatfield and the North) with six albums blending ethnic, world music, improvisation and ambient and experimental influences. Colin is also a member of Metallic Taste of Blood, a genre-defying group whose intense and cinematic music draws from dub, metal, progressive, free jazz and ambient music. In 2013 Colin recorded the critically acclaimed bass duo album Twinscapes with Italian bassist Lorenzo Feliciati. About Jon Durant Guitarist Jon Durant brings a unique sense of texture and melody to his instrument. His distinc - tive “cloud guitar” soundscapes and engaging lead work have graced numerous CD recordings and film soundtracks. As executive producer of Alchemy Records, he produces recordings for internationally acclaimed artists in his small Massachusetts studio. Along with longtime collab - orators Tony Levin (bassist with King Crimson and Peter Gabriel), percussionist Vinny Sabatino, pianist Michael Whalen, and guitar/synth master Randy Roos, Jon has recorded with electric violinist Caryn Lin, percussionist Jerry Leake, singer/songwriter Porter Smith, soul singer Ray Greene (Tower of Power) and many others. Etymology is Jon’s third recording with Colin Edwin. Alchemy Records, Ltd • 61 Surrey Drive • Cohasset, MA 02025 Tel: (781) 718-0067 • www.alchemyrecords.com.

Live Among the White Trash: A history of nono----manman on stage “There are no No-Man concerts scheduled for the foreseeable future.” (from the official no-man website) Anyone who has followed no-man’s career over the previous ten years or so will be acutely aware that the band does not play live. If no-man “exist” as a band at all – and their infrequent releases mean they are more an ongoing understanding between two men rather than an active unit – it is only in the studio. Over a series of uncompromising albums no-man’s music has become ever more complex, yet ironically, “live sounding” than the release which proceeded it. But this organic “liveness” is mainly an illusion; the feeling of spontaneity often the result of numerous edits and takes which only the precision of studio work can produce. Others have tried to perform equally difficult music live: Radiohead ambitiously thrusting their clicks-and- cuts post-rock upon the world’s stadiums, for example. But for a variety of reasons, no-man simply haven’t tried – at least, not since 1994 and not until a one-off performance in 2006. The only comparable case is Talk Talk’s retreat into the studio in the late 1980s. Both bands have undoubtedly crafted their best work without going near an audience. 1 But it wasn’t always so. no-man were once very much a live act, promoting singles and albums with dates and undertaking two full-blown tours – though they rarely played outside London, never went further north than Newcastle, and never played outside Great Britain.

Back endpaper: Audit Office staff, 2001. iii Foreword he year 2001 assumed much significance for the Victorian Auditor-General’s Office as Tit marked the 150th anniversary of the appointment in July 1851 of the first Victorian Auditor-General, Charles Hotson Ebden. In commemoration of this major occasion, we decided to commission a history of the 150 years of the Office and appointed Dr Peter Yule, to carry out this task. The product of the work of Peter Yule is a highly informative account of the Office over the 150 year period. Peter has skilfully analysed the personalities and key events that have characterised the functioning of the Office and indeed much of the Victorian public sector over the years. His book will be fascinating reading to anyone interested in the development of public accountability in this State and of the forces of change that have progressively impacted on the powers and responsibilities of Auditors-General. Peter Yule was ably assisted by Geoff Burrows (Associate Professor in Accounting, University of Melbourne) who, together with Graham Hamilton (former Deputy Auditor- General), provided quality external advice during the course of the project.

  • Tim Bowness – Flowers at the Scene
Peter Hammill (VdGG), Andy Partridge (ex- XTC), Kevin Godley (u.a. 10cc, Godley & Creme), Colin Edwin (u.a.
