DAYS OUT AT ULLSWATER YOU'VE BOOKED YOUR TICKET TO COME AND VISIT US AND ARE NOW LOOKING FOR SOME DAY OUT INSPIRATION? LOOK NO FURTHER! Take a look at our suggestions and plan a day out that you will never forget! Don't forget to be back at the pier with plenty of time to get the boat back and please adhere to all of our social distancing guidelines. ULLSWATER TAKE A LOOK AT THIS MAP FOR SOME WALKING ROUTE INSPIRATION AND TO ALSO SEE WHERE YOU WILL BE TRAVELLING TO AND FROM ON YOUR DAY OUT WITH US GLENRIDDING The Yellow, Purple and Green cruises from Pooley Bridge stop here and allow for just over 3 hours in Glenridding. The cruises from Aira Force which stop here are Clover, Bluebell and Elderberry and they all allow at least 2 1/2 hours in Glenridding. LANTY'S TARN - 1 1/2 HOURS Wanting to explore? Why not head out on a walk through the village and up to Lanty's Tarn, giving stunning views of the whole lake! Plus you may spot a Red Squirrel on your walk. BOAT HIRE - 5 MINUTES FROM THE PIER Get out on the lake under your own steam and hire a boat from St Patrick's Boat Landing - just across the field next to the pier house. AFTERNOON TEA - 2 HOURS Treat yourselves to an incredible afternoon tea in The Orangery at the Inn On The Lake. A lovely view of the lake and great food, perfect! EXPLORE GLENRIDDING - 10 MINUTES FROM PIER If the weather isn't on your side, head into the village and visit the many pubs and hotels for some food. Or bring your own picnic for some alfresco dining in the sun! GLENRIDDING PLACES TO EAT There are lots of places to eat in the village, including pubs to pick up some homemade hot food, cafés to stock up your picnic or local shops for a small snack! FACILITIES There are public toilets on our pier and some in the village at the main village car park If you are planning on going out for a walk, please ensure that you have on appropriate clothing and footwear, have a map and take plenty of water. You may also need some suncream! HEAD TO THE ULLSWATER.COM WEBSITE TO FIND OUT WHICH SPECIFIC BUSINESSES ARE OPEN WITHIN THE VALLEY POOLEY BRIDGE The Blue, Orange and Grey cruises from Glenridding stop here and allow for just over 3 hours in Pooley Bridge giving you plenty of time to explore. COCKPIT STONE CIRCLE - 1 1/2 HOURS Take a walk out of the village and up to the Cockpit Stone Circle. A fairly short walk that offers fantastic views of the lake. DALEMAIN LOOP - 2 HOURS One of the most recent additions to the Ullswater Way, this walk takes you all the way from Pooley Bridge to Dalemain along signposted paths. Just follow the daffodil! DUNMALLARD HILL - 1 HOUR If you don't fancy a long walk why not head into the woods and go for a walk around Dunmallard Hill? A short walk to stretch out your legs and enjoy nature. EXPLORE POOLEY BRIDGE - 15 MINUTES FROM PIER If the weather isn't on your side, head into the village and visit the many pubs and hotels for some food, plus don't forget to pop into our TIC shop to pick up some souvenirs to remind you of your trip. POOLEY BRIDGE BRIDGE Please note that the main road bridge is still under construction. The footbridge is in operation and will allow you access to the village. PLACES TO EAT There are lots of places to eat in the village, including pubs to pick up some homemade hot food, cafés to stock up your picnic or local shops for a small snack! HEAD TO THE ULLSWATER.COM WEBSITE TO FIND OUT WHICH SPECIFIC BUSINESSES ARE OPEN WITHIN THE VALLEY AIRA FORCE The cruises from Glenridding which stop here are Daffodil (we recommend walking back to Glenridding from this cruise as there is only a 10 minute turn around on this cruise), Damson, Foxglove and Blackberry. These last three cruises all allow over 3 hours at Aira Force before returning to Glenridding. AIRA FORCE WATERFALL - 1 HOUR Not to be missed! Walk up the National Trust Aira Force Waterfall and take in the beauty of the falls. Follow the footpath around and be sure to keep your eyes peeled as there are Red Squirrels living in the woods surrounding the falls! WALK TO GLENRIDDING - 1 HOUR The shortest section of the Ullswater Way, this walk is suitable for everyone! A gentle stroll back to Glenridding along footpaths, offering great views ULLSWATER WAY HERITAGE TRAIL - 1 HOUR Take in the treefold and Dorothy's Gate installations, as well as Wordsworth's Daffodils on this relaxing route. AIRA FORCE AND GOWBARROW TRAIL - 3 HOURS Walk up to the falls and then follow the path and head around the back of Gowbarrow Fell. A lovely walk with stunning views. View the Aira Force website for full details. AIRA FORCE PLACES TO EAT There is a tea room on site at Aira Force, serving sandwiches, ice creams and tasty scones and cakes! Perfect for a rainy day! FACILITIES There are public toilets in the car park at Aira Force. If you are planning on going out for a walk, please ensure that you have on appropriate clothing and footwear, have a map and take plenty of water. You may also need some suncream! HEAD TO THE ULLSWATER.COM WEBSITE TO FIND OUT WHICH SPECIFIC BUSINESSES ARE OPEN WITHIN THE VALLEY HOWTOWN Please note you can only disembark our boats at Howtown. We will not be allowing passengers to board our boats from this pier. WALK TO POOLEY BRIDGE - 2 1/2 HOURS Take a walk along one of the original sections of the Ullswater Way and head into Pooley Bridge. This is a lovely walk that gives spectacular views of the lake - just be sure to turn around and take them in! COCKPIT STONE CIRCLE If you are on the walk to Pooley Bridge, make sure that you take the 'high route' so that you can see the Cockpit Stone Circle. WALK TO GLENRIDDING - 3-4 HOURS The most well known section of the Ullswater Way, Howtown to Glenridding, is a fantastic walk that follows the shoreline. This route is approximately 7 miles and quite undulating so be sure that you can walk fast enough to get back on your boat if you are returning to Pooley Bridge! HOWTOWN PLACES TO EAT If you are heading to Howtown, be sure to pack a picnic! There isn't anywhere to just grab a quick snack so bring your own with you, but please remember to take your litter home! FACILITIES Please note there are no facilities at Howtown. There are facilities at Glenridding, Pooley Bridge and on board our boats. If you are planning on going out for a walk, please ensure that you have on appropriate clothing and footwear, have a map and take plenty of water. You may also need some suncream!
