We can't do it alone and ask each and every member to assist us in any way you can. On field, we have reappointed Jarryd Williamson as Coach to build on last year’s efforts. Under Jarryd, each grade improved, and Turf 1 almost played finals. With natural progression, some new recruits (who we'll introduce later) and more dedication, we expect teams to play finals this year. Steven Spoljaric will once again Captain Turf 1. Spol was unlucky to miss out on a 3rd consecutive Wookey Medal (League Best Player) last season by one solitary vote. But he did collect another Turf 1 batting average, Turf Cricketer of the Year Award and his 3rd consecutive DDCA Team of the Year selection. Also congratulations to Shane Bell who was also selected for the 3rd straight year. We have appointed Rob 'Skulla' Cullen as our Director of Cricket and Chairman of Selectors. Rob played in Parkfield's first ever Turf 1 game and brings a wealth of cricket experience and knowledge. With Jarryd and Spol, Rob will set training and match day standards and expectations which we expect to be adhered to. Raising the standard of presentation, attitude and professionalism to practice and games. Swiz will assist Rob with selection, help them by making sure they have your contact details and letting them know of your availability. Off field we are making progress too. Phil Snow has joined as our Sponsorship co-ordinator and has already ensured that we have regained support from BW Plumbing, RACV. Springvale RSL, Bendigo Bank Dingley and Paesano International Buffet to name a few. All of our sponsors will be proudly listed in all Parkfield publications, please support them as they support us. If you know of any businesses or individuals looking to sponsor Parkfield, please contact Phil. 5 We've gained a significant government grant through the hard work of last year’s Secretary Ty Edwards, unfortunately Ty has decided to play cricket closer to home this year. We wish him, Tanya and new son Heath all the best, and hope to see them again at Parkfield soon. Throughout winter and because of the hard work of David Ford, we held both a Golf Tournament and a Poker Tournament. Brownlow night also went well. Usually an inactive time for a cricket club, these events enabled us to raise some funds we otherwise couldn't. Thanks to all of those that supported these events. We have appointed Jessica Spoljaric as our events co-ordinator. Jess is very keen and has set out a list of events for you all to enjoy over the next 6 months. Jess is also running our canteen this year along with a full time job, and raising 2 kids (and Spol). Jess would appreciate it if you can all ask your wives, girlfriends etc to give her a hand, even if its just for one day or night. We'll put a roster up, as we will in the bar, your assistance will be greatly appreciated. Speaking of the bar, Paul Fear is back for another stint as Bar Manager, thank you Feary. Again, we expect everyone to assist Feary at least once during the season. Many hands make light work. Jobs are many, but usually left to too few. A job roster will be put on the notice board, if you can do just one job for your club, it will help us immensely. It may be a night behind the bar or helping Jess in the kitchen. Put your name next to one job on the list and make our jobs easier. We already know Doddsy will clean the rooms and help Bobby in the kitchen with Thursday meals and Saturday teas, Geoff will score for Turf 1, Tony will update the Club Stats and do anything else the club requires, Fordy will help with functions etc. Coming functions to put in your calender include, Membership fees are now due, we still have one of the cheapest subs around and our juniors play for FREE. If you can't pay in one hit, we're happy to take part payments. Speak to Adam Brown or Marcus Coutts for details. So, good luck to everyone for the upcoming season, you only get out of it, what you put into it. Out: Ryan Hercules (West Indies), Alex Cotter (UK) The skinny : The Wicks missed the finals last summer as the defending champs and will be slighted by it. They should be stronger with Sri Lankan star Bart Perera and Englishmen Chris Davies available for the whole summer. The Wicks expect their crop of young talent, led by Tanner Stanton, Cory Bevan, Ryan Williamson, Darren D’Souza and Liam Miller, to make a contribution. Likely finish: 7th BUCKLEY RIDGES In : Daniel Francois Haasbroek (South Africa), Lucas Hoogenboom (Tooradin). Out : Daniel Watson (Casey South Melbourne), Troy Aust (Casey South Melbourne), Marc Calkin (Darwin), Greg Todd (Bentleigh), Johnny Lash (Lakes Entrance), Tom Rowe (Nottinghamshire) The skinny : The reigning premier has had more departures than ALP ministers at the Federal election. The Ridges and their band of merry supporters must hope that crack South African all-rounder Daniel Francois Haasbroek can take up some of the 1750-plus runs that have left the Postage Stamp. Lucas Hoogenboom is a pacy former Premier player who will form a lethal opening combination with Jeremy Kuru. But the losses are just too many for the Ridges to overcome. Likely finish: 5th COOMOORA In : Joe Hawke (UK), Thanura Halambage (Sri Lanka), Dillon Gemmel-Smith (Noble Park). Out : Nil The skinny : In 2012-12 the Roos were competitive in their first season back in Turf 1. Four wins was a more than adequate effort. Paul Hill is again skipper and the Roos have high hopes that imports Halambage, a former Sri Lankan Under 19 top-order batsman, and Hawke, an all-rounder from England, can help propel them towards the top four. Vice-president Mick Temby said: “We hope to win a couple of extra games and sneak into the finals.’’ Likely finish: 9th 9 DANDENONG WEST In : Chandana Aravinda. Out : Dave Weerden (NSW), Ryan Buckley (UK) T he skinny: The West took the competition by storm last summer but were nutted in Round 11 and then the semi by eventual winner Buckley Ridges. Captain-coach Justin Stanton will again rely heavily on last year’s Wookey Medal winner Alex Roberts for a bumper summer. Roberts can do things most can’t and with Weerden going, he will need to be at his best with the stick. Buckley is a big loss. The tweaker may not have taken a bag full of wickets with him on his return flight to Heathrow, but the Bulls will need to find someone to replace the 100-plus overs he sent down. Aravinda returns after missing last year. The Bulls will be one of a few clubs right in the hunt for March action.

Sussex CCC vs Kent 2 Day Friendly The 1st Central County Ground, Hove Thursday 28th – Friday 29th March 2019 Day One Sussex’s bowlers will take plenty of encouragement from the first day of their pre- season friendly against Kent after taking 13 top-order wickets at The 1st Central County Ground on Thursday. In his first outing since undergoing hip surgery during the off-season, Ollie Robinson bowled ten overs without difficulty, picking up three for 18. At one stage he had the remarkable figures of three for none from six overs as he wreaked havoc amongst Kent’s batsmen, who it was agreed would bat for the entirety of the day’s 90 overs. Robinson struck with the third ball of the day, a length delivery that nipped back and sent Sean Dickson’s off-stump cartwheeling. Robinson had the ball moving the other way for his second dismissal, a full-pitched outswinger that made its move too late for Daniel Bell-Drummond to do anything about it crashing into his wicket. A winter of recuperation in the groundsman’s shed, the Hove off-stump was being given very little time to adjust to another season of battery from Sussex’s leading wicket-taker of 2018. Chris Jordan struck next - Adam Rouse caught down the legside by Ben Brown for a duck - before Robinson was at it again. This time it was a shorter delivery that did the business as Zack Crawley sent the ball ballooning off the back of his bat to Michael Burgess in the gully to leave Kent in dire straits at 19 for 4.

Sussex Sharks v. Kent Spitfires Royal London One-Day Cup, South Group The 1st Central County Ground, Hove. Thursday 17th May 2018. Luke Wells produced an impressive all-round performance as Sussex Sharks got their Royal London One-Day Cup campaign off to a winning start against Kent Spitfires at The 1st Central County Ground. Playing only his seventh game in the competition and his first for nearly two years, Wells took 2-30 with his leg spin as Kent were dismissed for 188. He then anchored Sussex’s response with 62 from 89 balls before skipper Ben Brown made an unbeaten 73 to lead his side to a seven-wicket win with 10.1 overs to spare. Kent hopes had been raised by two early breakthroughs. Luke Wright (4) nicked Mitch Claydon to slip and Harry Finch (9) was caught behind off Matt Henry to leave Sussex 19-2. Wells played watchfully at first before picking up the pace. He reached his maiden List A 50 with a drive down the ground for his seventh four and added two more boundaries before Henry returned to knock back his leg stump and end a stand of 107 in 22 overs with Brown. Brown passed 50 for the sixth time in List A cricket, his runs coming off 86 balls with six fours. Laurie Evans supported him with 38 not out in an unbroken fourth-wicket stand of 63 in 12.2 overs. Earlier, Kent won the toss but were dismissed with 6.3 overs unused and were about 40-50 runs under par on a pitch with few demons apart from occasional low bounce.
