Whether in the gym, at the field, or out at the sports complex, our students put in many hours on the hardwood, turf, track, and in weight room. Our dedicated fans bring their own brand of spirit to our competitions. Our fall sports enjoyed play-off opportunities, District Volleyball tourney, and third and sixth places finishes in boys and girls XC, respec tively. Winter brought us a second place State finish for the grapplers, fourth at State in Boys basketball, and a fourth place Divisional finish for the girls. We look forward to what spring will bring for our track and field, softball, tennis, and track participants. 17 AT THE MOVIES Homecoming 2003 was another memorable homecoming. This year's theme was "At the Movies." The seniors chose the movie "Rockie", the juniors chose "Jaws", the sophomores chose "Wizard of Oz", and the freshman chose 'The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly." Every year we battle with the weather, especially the wind. This year mother nature decided to rain. Thankfully, all the float sites were indoors. The main events of homecoming-- powderpuff football, macho volleyball, and the barbeque- were moved into the school. Because of the lighting in the gym, we were unable to get clear pictures of the games. In powderpuff football the sophomores beat the seniors and the junior girls beat the freshmen. In macho volleyball the seniors barely beat the sophomores and the juniors again beat the freshmen. Then there was the homecoming royalty. The freshman class nominated Kasey Dosch and Justin Fitzpatrick. The sophomore class nominated Traci Miller and Danny Parrent. The junior class nominated Marcia Lennick and Brandon Hallenberg. The senior class proudly nominated Kate Luedtke and Josh Pyette. The race for the crowns was very close. Marcia was crowned queen and Justin was crowned king. The parade went smoothly. The class of 2004 finally won the contest of the best float. The pep assembly after the parade was also held in the high school gym where the members of the football, volleyball, and cross-country teams were announced. Jeremiah Johnson, and Justin Fitz patrick. Three Freshman were also on the state team: Ben Jacobsen, Steven Blair, and Byron Meeks. The girls' team was relatively young this year as Gabby Guse was the only Senior for the team. The girls had a disappointing sixth place team finish at this year's state race in Missoula. The other teammates for the girls team are: Juniors Trisha Bauer, Mary Blair, and Amanda Babcock; Sophomore Chelsey Johnson; and Freshmen Courtney Gilbert and Delia Tromblee. Congratulations to both cross country teams on your accomplishments throughout the season! Freshman Steven Blair charges up the hill as a first time state competitor. Living Happily Ever After? : The Reinforcement of Stereotypical Gender Roles on The Bachelor and The Bachelorette Erin Victoria Klewin William E. Stanwood, Thesis Advisor Boston College May 2007 Acknowledgments There have been many people over the past year who have in one way or another helped and participated in the creation of this senior thesis. First and foremost, I dedicate this thesis to my family for encouraging me to undertake this project and challenge myself, and for helping me push through even at the most stressful of times. They have given me endless love and support my entire life and have never stopped believing in me, and I am eternally thankful to them. I also want to thank my advisor, Professor Bill Stanwood, for his countless hours of guidance, support and optimism. Coming in as my advisor later than normal, he has been optimistic and excited about this project from day one. Constantly available and willing to help, he has had such confidence in my abilities. This thesis would not be what it is today if not for Professor Stanwood’s direction and continual support, and I feel privileged to have had him as my advisor. Finally, I want to thank the Communication Department and the Arts & Sciences Honors Program of Boston College for affording me the opportunity to engage in such a challenging yet fulfilling project. It has been a tremendous learning experience and one which I am incredibly thankful for! i Table of Contents Abstract..............................................................................................................................
