LTIFR reduced significantly across Severstal, to 0.96 compared to 1.77 a year before. Severstal Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development Report 2017 3 Review by Chief Executive of AO Severstal Management Alexander Shevelev Without doubt, 2017 was a successful year for Severstal. We achieved all our objectives. We remained an industry leader by profitability with EBITDA of US$2.577 billion, and increased our revenue by one third. We exceeded our steel and rolled product production plans, shipped almost 11 million tonnes of products, and took the second spot in the World Steel Dynamics ranking of the most competitive steelmakers worldwide. While favourable market environment was a significant factor in achieving these positive results, our internal productivity programme was equally important. To a great extent, this achievement is attributable to our 50 thousand employees. We established a motivation and innovation system that rewards every employee for identifying and suggesting opportunities for improvement at their workplace. This effort generates strong return, including financial benefits. Over the past few years, we have implemented multiple initiatives to become a more customer-centric business. The most important one is our online store that brought the quality of our services to a whole new level. We also achieved serious progress with product quality. We try to anticipate issues with our products and services and respond to all their needs. The world is changing so quickly that we cannot afford being static. Our strategy focuses on enabling Severstal to adjust to fast changes to the environment while remaining a leader in efficiency. We need new growth drivers, and we believe they will mostly come from innovations. We developed a concept for innovation programme and a set of tools to implement it. Pilot projects are running throughout our manufacturing and business operations, and we are working on approximately 1,300 new ideas. The research is based on the conviction that the development of the nonprofit sector is crucial for the regional socio-economic system and depends upon civic engagement. The results of an analysis of available statistical data and a sociological survey conducted in one of the Russian regions reveal that the share of the Russians engaged in volunteer activities is low; over 80% of the population do not participate in public activities; less than 10% have definite knowledge of working nonprofit organizations. The study allowed identifying three groups of the main barriers and formulating some recommendations for their overcoming. Introduction Sustainable development of Russian regions requires the fullest use of their internal potential.     PRESS RELEASE Paris, June 3, 2021 Air Liquide and Severstal extend their partnership with a new long-term contract in major oxygen site in continental Europe Air Liquide and PAO Severstal, one of the leading steel producers, have signed a new long-term contract for the supply of oxygen to the Severstal CherMK site in Russia. Air Liquide will invest around 60 million euros in the construction of a state-of-the-art Air Separation Unit (ASU) on the site, one of the largest oxygen sites in continental Europe, where it already owns three other ASUs. Thanks to enhanced energy efficiency, this new unit will improve the overall environmental footprint. Air Liquide will design and build a new state-of-the-art ASU on the Severstal CherMK site in Cherepovets, one of the most competitive steel making sites worldwide. The new unit will produce 1,000 tons of oxygen per day. This is the fourth ASU installed by Air Liquide in Cherepovets. Planned to be started up by the end of 2023, the unit will be owned and operated by Air Liquide Severstal, a joint venture established in 2005 between Air Liquide (75%) and Severstal (25%). It will bring the total production capacity on this site, one of the largest sites for Oxygen production in continental Europe, at above 8,000 tonnes of oxygen per day. This new ASU is characterized by improved energy efficiency. In the framework of the agreement the two companies have also committed to further reduce the CO2 emissions arising from the oxygen production, in line with Air Liquide’s commitments to address the urgency of climate change and to act for a sustainable future.

In these countries and to a certain extent in some least developed countries there is a substantial interest to develop new IBWTs. IBWTs are being applied or developed not only for irrigated agriculture and hydropower, but also for municipal and industrial water supply, flood management, flow augmentation (increasing flow within a certain river reach or canal for a certain purpose), and in a few cases for navigation, mining, recreation, drainage, wildlife, pollution control, log transport, or estuary improvement. Debates on the pros and cons of such transfers are on going at National and International level. New ideas and concepts on the viabilities and constraints of IBWTs are being presented and deliberated in various fora. In light of this the Central Office of the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) has attempted a compilation covering the existing and proposed IBWT schemes all over the world, to the extent of data availability.
