Adult Division – Rules and Regulations Adult Division – Rules and Regulations 1. Open to any 2011-2012 products may be exhibited. (Made since the 2011 fair) Articles previously exhibited will be disqualified. 2. Prizes will be awarded only to articles deemed worthy of a prize by the judges. 3. Articles that are not on this premium list will not be accepted for exhibit. 4. Only one article may be entered for each premium by any one exhibitor. 5. Canned products accepted in standard jars only (ex. Ball, Kerr, Mason, and Golden Harvest jars. 6. All items not advancing to State Fair are to be picked up at the Rapides Parish Fair between the hours of 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 14, 2012. Articles not picked up after the Rapides Parish Fair must be picked up between 7:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. Monday, October 15, 2012. At the end of this period, if not claimed, these items will be donated to a worthy cause, Exception – Fresh Fruits and Vegetables will be disposed of at the fairgrounds, at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, October 14, 2012. 7. *Instructions for items progressing to the State fair are available as separate fact sheet. You may obtain one from the Extension/4-H office. 8. Permission by the exhibitor must be given at time of entry in order for articles to be sent to the state fair.     Project Description Candlewicking is a form of surface embroidery that traditionally uses an unbleached cotton thread on a piece of unbleached muslin. It gets Candlewicking its name from the nature of the thread, which very much resembles the wick used in a candle. Motifs are created using a variety of knots (Colonial) and satin stiches (backstitich). A warm covering made of two layers of cloth filled with a material with loft and tyed together. Tying refers to the technique of using thread, Comforters yarn or ribbon to pass through all three layers of the comforter at reqular intervals. These "ties" hold the layers together during use and especially when the comforter is washed. By the end of the 18th century the U.S. quilt had distinctive features, such as coloured fabric sewn on the outer layers (appliqué) and stitching that echoed the appliqué pattern.

Use the stylus on the Ultimate Interactive Screen to drag the design to the upper left corner of the hoop area on the screen. 9. Using Tear-A-Way stabilizer underneath, hoop an 18” square of fabric with Tear Away Stabilizer. Slide on the Crown Hoop. 10. Touch GO! to go to Embroidery Stitch Out. 11. Touch Start/Stop to embroider the first design. 12. When the design is finished, a pop-up message will appear “Embroidery is finished. Clear screen?” 13. Touch Cancel to retain the design on the screen. 14. Touch Design Positioning 15. Touch Step 1 (the flower icon indicates you are watching your screen, not the hoop) 16. Move the red cursor to the upper left corner of the design to position the first locked point. 17. Touch Pan Bring corner of the design with the cursor to center of the hoop. 18. Use Zoom In to see to see the exact point where the designs will meet. 19. Use Pan and drag on the screen until you see it. 20. Touch Position to turn off Pan. 21. Continue moving the red cursor to the exact point where the designs will meet. 22. Use the Control arrows to fine tune the placement.

Sideways Motion Scenarios • Sideways Motion Stitches used in Combinations. • Sideways Motion Stitches created in Stitch Designer. • Using Drag & Drop to join stitch patterns in combi-mode frequently produces a Sideways Motion situation. • Sewing with Distortion engaged (B 880 PLUS). • Engaging the Multi-Directional Sewing Icon. Sideways Motion Information • Sideways Motion Stitches vary in size. When selected, the display on screen is in relation to the presser foot, so the entire view of the stitch may not be visible. If this is the case and you wish to see the entire view of the stitch, select the Fit to Window icon. • The white dot indicates the start point of the pattern, the red mark indicates the endpoint of the pattern. Tips for Stitching Sideways Motion Stitches • Always use Foot #40C for sideways motion sewing – no other foot is designed to stitch sideways successfully. • Sideways motion stitches cannot be sewn with Dual Feed. • Determine stabilizer needs based on fabric choice and stitch selections. Light-weight tear away stabilizer or starch may be needed. • In Sideways Motion Stitching, the feed dogs move the fabric in multiple directions, including sideways, forward and backward to stitch the pattern. • Only fngertip guiding (a very light touch) is recommended to allow the machine to make the angled movements at the pace required.

    The Sun News from The Sun Region of The Embroiderers’ Guild of America, Inc. www.sunregionega.org June/July/Aug 2011 RD’s Letter Welcome to Sun News, the voice of Sun Region, representing the 700+ EGA members of the 16 chapters in the state of Florida and the island nation of Bermuda. In our effort to preserve the art of embroidery, we support education in our com- munity through exhibits and displays as well as educational opportunities for our members. We are the Embroiderers’ Guild of America – a 501 (c)(3) organization. What is happening in EGA land? Over the last few weeks we received information about a number of great education op- portunities. “Inside EGA” announced 2 new quarterly correspondence courses where we can register on an individual basis for the current offerings at very reasonable prices. Although it’s fun and helpful to be part of GCC within your chapter, we are no longer limited to participating only in our chapter’s choice. But that’s not all; we can select from 4 Online GCCs, again with very low registration fees. Recently, EGA members received direct access to the “President’s Mailing” containing information on national and chapter administrative and education programs (including the newest Petite Project). We also receive regular communications from Sue Hacker-Nelson, EGA’s Director of Marketing with updates and links to new information.
