Whereas cars and trucks were once the best sellers on the market, in recent years, the SUV class has exploded in popularity. These vehicles tend to offer the higher functionality of a truck while still maintaining the comforts and style of a sedan.

Truly, SUVs offer the best of both worlds.

If you’re looking at the Nissan class, then you’ll have five different SUVs to get acquainted with. Each varies in size, offering different performance specs, technologies, and comforts for drivers.

Let’s start with the smaller Nissan crossovers and work our way up to the big ones…

The Nissan Rogue If you have a smaller family, the midsize sedan class probably has enough room for everyone. However, does it have the handling and the functionality you need for poor weather or rough terrain? We know that a crossover like the Nissan Rogue certainly does.

Rogue Highlights • Engine: 2.5L 4-cylinder capable of producing 170 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque • Transmission: Standard Xtronic CVT® • Infotainment: Standard Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ The Nissan Rogue does have something of a smaller engine than some other SUVs in the Nissan lineup. Still, as a 5-passenger car with 105.8 cubic feet of total occupant space, it’s just a little bit smaller all-around. Nevertheless, with an Xtronic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT®), the Rogue can maintain good fuel economy while producing 170 horsepower. This smoother, quieter transmission allows the car to maintain an EPA-estimated 33 MPG highway and 26 MPG city.1

You’ll have plenty of infotainment features in this car, too. A 7-inch touchscreen monitor comes standard with the Rogue, as do features like Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™, Bluetooth®, and Siri® Eyes Free. This array allows for full mobile device integration, media streaming, and hands-free calling and texting.

The Rogue Advantage With its power and fuel economy, as well as its standard infotainment and other interior amenities, the Rogue matches most midsize sedans tit-for-tat. The major difference here is that you’re getting all those things with improved handling, a bigger wheelbase, and more ground clearance—and that means you’ll have no problem powering through harsh weather or muddy adventures.

The Nissan Rogue Sport The Rogue Sport is very similar to its predecessor in many ways. Handling and performance are on par with the standard Rogue. However, the Sport model gets a little bump in design and technology, making it perfect for city streets.

When you live in a crowded city or even a crowded suburb, space is at a premium. Plus, navigating these bustling roads can be a challenge with too big of a vehicle. The Nissan Rogue Sport manages to take all the highlights of the Rogue and artfully compress them into a smaller, highly maneuverable package.

While the Rogue Sport also seats five passengers, its interior volume is condensed to 96 cubic feet (while still maintaining 22.9 cubic feet of cargo space). In this way, the Rogue Sport is closer in size to a small sedan.

Nevertheless, stability controls—as well as Active Ride Control, Intelligent Trace Control, and Intelligent Engine Braking—allow this crossover to handle any road with precision, whether you’re on a windy road or in stop-and-go traffic.

In addition to these handling features, you’ll have some great standard safety features, including:

The Rogue Sport Advantage While the functionality of a crossover can be super helpful, some drivers just don’t care for the bigger size as much. However, the Nissan Rogue Sport provides a sleek alternative for those tastes.

With big SUV handling in a smaller package, you should have no issues with maneuverability.

The Nissan Murano So, the size of the Nissan Rogue may seem like a perfect fit. However, you might be interested in adding some extra power to the package. In which case, you’ll want to check out the Nissan Murano. This adds a little more brawn to the 5-passenger setup.

Murano Highlights • Engine: Standard 3.5L V6 capable of producing 260 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque • Cabin: 108.1 cubic feet of passenger room • Towing: 1,500 pounds2 In terms of size, the Nissan Murano is fairly similar to the Rogue. It does, however, manage to add a bit more occupant space at 108.1 cubic feet. Likewise, exterior measurements should see a noticeable boost over its slightly smaller family member.

However, the big equipment change that seems to make the most impact is the engine. Whereas the Rogue and Rogue Sport come standard with a 4-cylinder engine, the Murano features a standard 6-cylinder engine. This motor will provide drivers with close to 100 more horsepower in the Murano. If you really enjoy the thrill of a fast car, this should be a nice boon.

With a V6 engine, the Murano can also tow as much as 1,500 pounds of cargo.2 Combine that cargo weight with the 32.1 cubic feet of space behind the second row, and you should have no problem moving all your necessary luggage and gear.

The Murano Advantage There are a lot of things that the Rogue and Murano have in common. Do they both offer intelligent safety options as well as solid infotainment technologies? Definitely. In the power category, though, they take off in two different directions.

If higher horsepower and torque is more your style, you may want to consider the Murano.

The Nissan Pathfinder Nissan has plenty of 5-passenger options, whether they be sedans or SUVs. However, what happens when your family outgrows those five seats? The Nissan Pathfinder is a standard 7-passenger SUV, perfect for your bigger crew.

Pathfinder Highlights • Size: 7 seats and 154 cubic feet of occupant space • Engine: 3.5L V6 capable of producing 284 horsepower and 259 lb-ft of torque • Seating: EZ FLEX® Seating System A bigger family requires a bigger car. Of course, you don’t have to go with a minivan if you don’t want to. A 7-passenger SUV, such as the Nissan Pathfinder, is an excellent option for anyone who needs added space.

This vehicle comes standard with the EZ FLEX® Seating System. This includes a 2nd-row 60/40-split fold-flat bench seat with LATCH AND GLIDE®, as well as a 3rd-row 50/50-split fold-flat reclining bench seat.

EZ FLEX® makes it easy to fold over and reconfigure your seating, making extra room for cargo. With the third row folded flat, you can have between 41.8 cubic feet and 47.4 cubic feet of cargo space.

Of course, numerous other amenities are available to keep things comfortable for passengers. For example, Tri-Zone Automatic Climate Control is standard, and heated seating is available.

The Pathfinder Advantage If an all-around bigger package complete with brawny V6 engine isn’t enough of a draw, the added interior functionality of the 7-passenger Pathfinder should do the trick. With EZ FLEX® Seating, you’ll always have ample room for cargo and passengers alike. Comfort shouldn’t be hard to come by. The Nissan Armada Some of us just like to go big. If you’re one of them, then even the 7-passenger Pathfinder may not be a sizable enough option for you. Instead, you can switch to the full-size Nissan SUV: the Armada.

With room for eight passengers as well as some massive horsepower and towing, the Armada was quite literally made for adventure.

Armada Highlights • Engine: Standard 5.6L V8 capable of producing 390 horsepower and 394 lb-ft of torque • Drivetrain: Available 4WD with 2-speed transfer case • Towing: 8,500 pounds2

If you’re the real adventurous type, odds are you may have some pretty big hauling needs. Maybe you’ve got a boat to tow or a camper? In either case, the Nissan Armada would make a good fit.

The Armada has a standard maximum towing capacity of 8,500 pounds.2 This is in part achieved thanks to the well-muscled powertrain of the Armada: a 5.6L V8 engine. This engine can generate as much as 390 horsepower and 394 lb-ft of torque, beating out other leaders in its class.

A heavy-duty 4-wheel drive (4WD) system is available for the Armada, too. When you add in 4WD with the 2-speed transfer case, your SUV can power through rocky roads, snowy conditions, messy mud, and more.

The Armada Advantage Whether you need room for eight passengers or just dozens of additional cubic feet of cargo room, the Armada is well-suited. Its bigger volume, bigger engine, and bigger towing capacity make it perhaps the most adventurous of all the Nissan SUVs.
