Downloading Ebooks and Audiobooks Using Overdrive for Nook HD Nooks: Downloading eBooks and audiobooks using OverDrive For Nook HD, Nook HD+, Nook Tablet and Nook Color, follow the below instructions. For older version of the Nook, go to page 2 of this handout. - If you have a Nook HD, Nook HD+, Nook Tablet and Nook Color you can download the OverDrive Media Console App from the Nook App Store. This will download the application to your device. You may need to sign in with your Adobe ID and you will need to enter in your library card before you can begin checking out materials. - On your device, go to the App Store and search for and download the OverDrive App. - Once the app is on your device, open it. You will be prompted to register with OverDrive. You are able to skip this step if you do not wish to register with OverDrive. - After you create an account, the below picture will come up on the screen. - In the left hand corner of the screen, click and choose Add a Library. Type in a zip code or library name. Then click Baldwin Borough Library or any library in Allegheny County. - On the next screen under Library Systems, click the star and next to it will read: Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh/Allegheny County. - Once that is selected, it will open to the below screen. You will see the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh and the Allegheny County Library Association logos at the top of the page. - To sign in to your account to check out eBooks, click Sign In on the right side of the screen and you will need to type in your library card number. - To download a book, click the menu button to browse for different titles in various genres or use the search bar to find what you are looking for. - Once you find what you are looking for, you can click on the book. All eBooks will have a picture of the book in the right hand corner, while audio books will have a picture of headphones. - Click Borrow to check out the book. Once you select a format it will begin to download. Other versions of Nook follow the below instructions: - Before you can successfully download eBooks, you need to install Adobe Digital Editions and create an Adobe ID on your home computer. You may be able to verify the device without creating an Adobe ID. Downloading this will allow you to get books on your computer and transfer them to your device. Go to the Adobe website for downloading instructions: http://www.adobe.com/products/digital- editions/download.html. - You will need to check out and download the book on the computer, and then transfer it to the device. - Visit http://acla.lib.overdrive.com to begin to browse for eBooks in the library’s collection. - To sign in to your account to check out eBooks, click Sign In on the right side of the screen. - It will bring you to a screen where you type in your library card number. - You are now signed up and ready to download an eBook! To download a book, click the menu button to browse for different titles in various genres or use the search bar to find what you are looking for. - Once you find what you are looking for, you can click on the book. All eBooks will have a picture of the book in the right hand corner, while audio books will have a picture of headphones. - Click Borrow to check out the book. Once you select a format it will begin to download. For Nook devices Adobe EPUB or PDF format are the only formats compatible with the Nook device. - Once it is finished downloading, it will ask you to open or save the book. Click Save. - Once you have downloaded the book Adobe Digital Editions will automatically open and display the downloaded title. You may need to verify and type in your Adobe ID again, if you chose to create one. Once you have typed in your Adobe ID and verified it, the eBook will open up in Adobe Digital Editions. - You have successfully checked out and downloaded a library eBook! The next step is to download the eBook to your device! When you click on Library, you will see the eBooks you have downloaded. - Connect your Nook to the computer through a USB cable. In Adobe Digital Editions you will see the device appear on the left-hand side of the page, under Devices. - Right click on the title of the book you want to transfer to your device. Choose Copy to Computer/Device and choose your device from the ones listed. - You can double check that the book has been transferred by double clicking on the device name in the left menu. All the books on your device will be shown, including the one you have just downloaded. - You are now ready to disconnect your device and start reading! For first edition Nooks, library eBooks can be found under My Documents. .
