In particular, it highlights the development and maintenance of our nationally-renown community-based long term services and supports system, as well as the very strong grassroots, coalition-based advocacy efforts in the senior and disability communities in Oregon. -

Oregon Progress Board Publications Notes References Foreword The development and publication of statistical indicators of the health status and well-being of populations has been increasing in the United States and internationally. These indicators still have less influence on health policy than the publication of data about leading economic indicators has on business decisions. However, indicators of health status are attracting attention among officials at all levels of government as well as among private-sector executives making decisions about such issues as where to locate or relocate operations. The state of Oregon in 1989 began to devise indicators of well-being, calling them benchmarks, as part of a long- term project to improve the economy of the state initiated by then-governor Neil Goldschmidt. The Oregon Progress Board (OPB), a public body whose members are leaders of the community, business, and government, manages the benchmarking process. -

AGovernor John Kitzhaber had appointed her to the office, vacated by John Kroger. She is the first woman to President serve as Oregon’s attorney general. Megan Livermore Governor Kitzhaber welcomed the overflowing crowd Vice President, President-Elect of Ellen’s friends, colleagues, and family, and the press, Kathleen J. Rastetter and introduced Oregon’s first female governor, Barbara Secretary Kendra Matthews Roberts. Following Governor Roberts was Justice Virginia Linder, the first woman to win a seat on the Oregon Su- Treasurer Laura Craska Cooper preme Court through a contested election. Both women Historian observed the historic nature of this appointment. I was afraid that nobody would recognize me up here in this coat and t|e_- I am honored to be on the platform tonight with Tom Moyer and Nohad Toulan, to be recognized as an Urban Pioneer. Let me take a minute to thank a few of the many people who inspired and supported me. My lovely wife, Lynn. She is more than half of the two of us. And I can document that. [When the City was considering whether to hire me back in 1973, Hal Johnson wrote to Bill Scott-then in Neil's office- that his 'sources in Cleveland' described Lynn as"... a very bright and talented person involved in justice planning and administration. Learning from the Jeffrey Epstein Mess: It’s Time to Add a Cause of Action for Damages to the Crime Victims’ Rights Act By Tung Yin INTRODUCTION During the early 2000s, a wealthy financier named Jeffrey Epstein allegedly “assembl[ed] a large, cult-like network of underage girls . to coerce into having sex acts behind the walls of his opulent waterfront mansion as often as three times a day.”1 Local law enforcement officers began investigating Epstein in 2005 after receiving one complaint about molestation of a female teenager.2 As police attention focused on Epstein, more accusers came forward, and a horrifying picture emerged: “From between about 1999 and 2007, Jeffrey Epstein sexually abused more than 30 minor girls . at his mansion in Palm Beach, Florida, and elsewhere in the United States and overseas.”3 Initially it appeared as if Epstein would soon face justice. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents began investigating him for child prostitution in mid-2006.4 That fall, FBI agents interviewed “potential witnesses and victims from Florida, New York and New Mexico.”5 By the following summer, the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida had drafted a 53-page indictment against Epstein for grand jury presentment.6 Over the next few months, federal prosecutors and Epstein’s lawyers discussed a potential plea agreement, with United States Attorney Alex Professor of Law, Lewis & Clark Law School.
