EMU RALLY FALLS JUST SHORT AT THE BUZZER IN 73-71 LOSS AT BOWLING GREEN Freshman Carlos Medlock misses jumper at the buzzer

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio—The Eastern Michigan University men’s basketball team stormed back from a 14-point deficit with just under seven minutes left in the game and had a chance to win at the buzzer, but a three-point field goal by freshman point guard Carlos Medlock (Detroit, Mich.-Murray Wright) with two seconds left was just short as Bowling Green hung on for a 73-71 Mid-American Conference win here Tuesday night in Anderson Arena. Bowling Green (9-13; 5-7) led, 61-47, with 6:54 left in the game when the visiting Eagles (5-15; 2-10) started their comeback, outscoring the Falcons, 23-8, with senior forward John Bowler (Chicago, Ill.- Notre Dame H.S.) cutting the deficit to one, 70-69, with 00:30 left on the clock when he made the first of two free throws. The Falcons bounced right back to take a three-point lead, 72-69 on two free throws by John Floyd but the Eagles would not fold, with Medlock driving to the hoop for a layup to make it a one-point game again, 72-71, with 13 ticks left. BGSU’s Steven Wright then hit one of two free throws with 10 seconds left for the 73-71 lead. That left it up to the Eagles and Medlock drove the length of the court and attempted a long jumper from just in front of the EMU bench. That attempt by Medlock was short and the Eagles grabbed the rebound but the buzzer sounded before any more shots could be attempted. Despite missing the final shot, Medlock stepped up big for the Eagles with a career-best 22 points. Bowler turned in the 25th double-double of his career with 20 points and a career-best 17 rebounds. Bowling Green was led by Martin Samarco with 20 points with Wright adding 17.
